Attractive football for the long run? Probably not.

Relegation survival football? Perhaps.

At this point, I don't think we need a manager that will get us playing attractive, attacking football. You'd need a lot more than 7 games to fix our attack.

What we need now is someone who will steady the ship and setup a solid base so we don't leak goals.

In our current situation, playing for a draw and hopefully getting lucky with a win is better than playing to win and getting unlucky, collecting 0 points, eg. Forest (H)

It's not sexy but the moment we focus on defense and completely stop conceding goals, the better our overall performances will be.

Would much rather roll the Dyche on De Zerbi as permanent manager as interim doesn’t appear to be an option.

My problem with this approach is that while it’s sensible, we’ve had several managers try to do exactly what you suggest and fail miserably. Mourinho famously, but also Conte to a lesser extent and most recently Frank.

I freely admit this is not a logical argument since Mourinho’s and Conte’s spurs were different (but better) squads. At the same time, I don’t see this squad magically being able to start soaking up pressure for long periods under any manager.

I think this squad is at its best defensively when it is able to effectively press high. It plays to the strengths of our back line and takes some of the creative pressure off of the attack. Unfortunately, due to injuries/fatigue/coaching we’ve been at best inconsistent and at worst ineffective/disjointed there for some time now.

I don’t pretend to know the answer, but I fear Dycheball will be more of the same, and I’d rather go down swinging.

  3. It’s not that it Dycheball wouldn’t work, but the club is at a state where the betrayal from its culture and the Frankenstein of players that we have I very much doubt you could seamlessly implement it.

I can already see the news about players clashing heads with Dyche.

At this point you just need someone who will suck up to the players until they leave in the summer. We’ve already seen they didn’t respond to Tudor’s disciplined style.

  4. It’s the same problem with Tudor. We just don’t have players that excel when we lose possession. Even our defenders like Romero and VdV are better when we have the possession and press high.

We assembled the team that is most catered toward Ange style high possession all out attack and now are playing the exact opposite way. It’s reverse forest when they sacked Nuno and appointed Ange.

Dyche relies on a striker that can actually score, will gamble on starting Solanke, Solanke won’t score, so will draw a lot of matches.

This is how I’m coaching my U14s. Solid defensive structure but harder to create chances up top. Great for their age at the moment. For Spurs….eh
