“Actually, I have never spoken with Arne Slot personally. I never interfere in when he makes what kind of decision, or when he plays Dominik as a defender—and I would expect the club coaches to treat me the same way.

By the way, I’m not the only one who decides this; obviously, I have no obligation to play anyone. If Dominik said he wanted to rest, I would certainly let him rest. But as you know, Dominik is the captain of this national team, and you know how important the national team jersey is to him. For him, this is an absolute priority.

Then, of course, if he needs to conserve his energy—just like anyone else who plays a lot—[we consider that], but primarily for me, for Dominik, and for everyone else, the good of the national team is the first priority.”

National team managers can be so selfish.
Its another example of our club being too respectful for its own good. At Arsenal, both Gabriel & Saliba couldn’t go with their national team because they were “injured.” I suspect they will be all good by the time the international break is over.

  3. What is the point in Hungary playing pointless friendlies when they’re not going to World Cup? Utter waste of time. Nothing for them to prepare for in the short to medium term. Save it for the summer

How the hell has Slot managed to piss off a NT manager, what’s he even said?

What slot said is right lmao. He just asked them to consider player workload and not play them 180 mins in a pointless friendly

Agree with Slot on this one. Friendlies at this time of the season are a worry for clubs. No need for Dom to play both games

  7. We’re talking about friendlies btw. So much saltiness from the Hungarian over meaningless matches.

Maybe get squad depth, rotate, and you won’t have to worry about national squad duties of your overplayed players.

  9. Are people slow or something, Slot has said multiple times that he doesn’t want to play Dom in defence but has no choice due to injuries

  10. reflecting to some of the comments i read here without offending anyone here, some of you need to understand that Dom is always going to put the national team above liverpool, every single time. Yes, even if it is only a pointless friendly. Its not about the NT coach forcing him to play 90 minutes, he has that level of authority within the team that if he says that he wants to rest himself, he will not play, and the coach will agree to it without a word. But clearly he doesnt do that.
Every single NT game is sold out home and away, 65k people, it isnt to be taken lightly, the whole country expects him to play, even it is meaningless, so obviously hes gonna oblige

The tension between club and national team managers is a structural problem, exacerbated by the larger problem of there simply being too many matches in the calendar, because decisions are made in the interests of profit rather than for the good of fans, players or club staff. It’s in Slot’s interest to encourage Rossi to rest Dom, and it’s in Rossi’s interest to be clear that he isn’t going to be swayed by what Slot says. Neither of them is in the wrong.

Selfishly, I’d like to skip mid-season international friendlies entirely, but to be fair international managers get very little time with their squads as it is, and they need to prepare for tournaments somehow. I’d like to see them play these behind closed doors, because I’d guess that Dom would be less keen to play 180 minutes if there wasn’t a huge audience that wanted to see him. But then you get back to the real issue, which is that there’s no money in that.

This the same national team coach who won’t shut up about Szobs and Real Madrid.
