I was rewatching Lionel Messi’s goal against Getafe CF and it still blows my mind.

The way he picks up the ball in his own half, dribbles past multiple defenders, and finishes so calmly — it’s basically a Maradona-level moment.

Do you think this is the greatest solo goal ever, or are there other contenders that come close?

I’d still give it to Maradona but this goal is also up there among the best solo goals.

  2. Yeah, I think so. This was genuinely solo from behind the halfway line, beating half the team and then the keeper and every step of the way you thought he’d zig and he zags and somehow keeps the ball at his feet.

The Madrid goal was just virtuoso Messi orchestrating the team and coming out of the shadows for the clinical finish. If any other player scored that one it’d be on his forever #1 reel. But it’s Messi so it gets on his reel and for those of us that saw it live it was truly a jaw-dropping moment. But man that Getafe goal is just another league.

I still can’t believe they blew the tie with Getafe in the 2nd leg. We beat them 5-2 at home and then lost 4-0 away.

Not the greatest solo goal, the greatest goal. Period. That last 3 seconds alone, the finish alone is enough to make highlight clips. Let alone everything leading up to it.

Messi’s best goal for sure, but maradonna’s solo goal in the World Cup vs England, in a terrible pitch that was legit unbalanced, the ball control was ridiculous

  6. It’s be tight, because there’s the match against Madrid in the Champions League semifinals and the Copa del Rey final against Bilbao, for me

No Maradona was better. and he’s on the right side of the political spectrum too.
