Bournemouth University’s Students’ Union (SUBU) is supporting Monkey World through its Big Give campaign, which collects unwanted items such as blankets for redistribution to nearby charities.

The donated blankets help provide daily comfort for rescued chimpanzees, orangutans, and other primates at the sanctuary.

Gillian Lewis, community partnership lead at SUBU, said: “The Big Give is a fantastic way for students to make a real difference with items they no longer need.

“Knowing that something as simple as a blanket can help provide comfort to rescued animals at Monkey World makes this campaign especially meaningful.”

Monkey World uses donated blankets, towels, duvet covers, and sheets to create nesting materials and keep the primates warm.

With more than 40 chimpanzees and 16 orangutans at the sanctuary, fresh supplies are needed daily, creating a high ongoing demand.

The Big Give campaign encourages students to donate clothing, household goods, and blankets as they move out for the summer.

The donations help reduce waste, prevent usable items from ending up in landfill, and support good causes.

The campaign reflects SUBU’s wider sustainability efforts and community values.

Students can find out more about the campaign, including donation points and collection dates, by visiting SUBU’s website.
