    # Manchester United transfers: Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly among targets at Old Trafford this summer

Myles Lewis-Skelly joins Newcastle’s Lewis Hall and Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown on Man Utd’s list of targets at left-back; The Arsenal youth graduate has only started one game in the Premier League this season for the Gunners

Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly is on Manchester United’s list of potential left-back targets this summer, Sky Sports News understands.

On Wednesday, *Sky Sports News* revealed Newcastle’s **Lewis Hall** and Eintracht Frankfurt’s **Nathaniel Brown** are among those under consideration to strengthen the position.

England’s Lewis-Skelly – who signed a new five-year contract at Arsenal last summer – is also believed to be another potential part of United’s plans

The 19-year-old is held in high regard at the Emirates, having been one of their best academy graduates in recent seasons, but he has only started one Premier League game all season.

Lewis-Skelly has started six times in the Champions League; however, England manager Thomas Tuchel recently told him he needs more game time if he is to make it into the World Cup squad.

Arsenal are looking to make additions to their squad too this summer – targeting top players to improve their first XI – and they will need to sell some players in order to do so.

It remains to be seen who Arsenal receive bids for and are willing to let go of – but Lewis-Skelly would present 100 per cent profit on the balance sheet, having come through the youth ranks.

As well as left-back, United are prioritising central midfield and left-wing, with the likes of **Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson,** **Yan Diomande** and **Iliman Ndiaye** all being looked at closely.

    # Maguire stresses the need for summer transfer investment

Harry Maguire says United “need bodies” to come in this summer to improve the squad. Maguire himself is in advanced talks to pen a new deal at Old Trafford with his current terms expiring this summer.

United’s managerial situation is also up in the air with Michael Carrick remaining interim until the end of the season.

“It’s going to be a big summer,” Maguire said while on international duty with England.

“We need bodies in, bodies to help the squad. We know that. We need improvement in the squad. It’s going to be a big recruitment in the management department and I’m sure that the hierarchy will get it right.”

Santa, I’d like a dragon for Christmas.

    Be realistic.

Ok, I’d like Arsenal’s Miles Lewis-Skelly to transfer to Manchester United.

…What color do you want your dragon?

    # Lewis-Skelly would give Man Utd a different profile

*Analysis by Sky Sports’ Nick Wright:*

Lewis-Skelly has slipped down the pecking order at Arsenal this season but his breakthrough campaign last term, during which he became Mikel Arteta’s first-choice left-back, underlined his huge potential. At 19, there is plenty of room for further growth.

While Luke Shaw is defensively minded at 30 and Patrick Dorgu is best as old-school runner on the overlap, Lewis-Skelly would offer something different at left-back, with the technical ability to tuck inside and provide composure in tight spaces.

He has played almost exclusively as a left-back for Arsenal. But having come through their academy in an altogether different position, there might also be scope to return him to his natural role in midfield. It is another possibility to excite his potential suitors.

More likely we win the Champions League this season than this transfer happening.

  5. Do they just pull three names out of a hat each day and write an article about how we are linked to them?

Sky picking transfer rumours for united :

sort by : age , position
    Select : ALL

  7. He just signed a long term contract, is a direct rival’s academy player, and isn’t even a left back. He’s a midfielder long term. Hate these idiotic articles all because a teenager isn’t playing regularly in a title challenging side

  8. Manchester United add [player] along with [player 1] and [player 2] in their hunt for a [position]. Copy and paste for the next 5 months.

Why does everyone think there is no chance of this? They have Calafiori and Hincapie playing ahead of him. So there is a remote chance right? No? Well I can hope at least. He seems to be highly rated

  10. Calaifiori and Hincapie are a problem for his minutes, but I don’t think he leaves. Just to add he primarily plays an inverted role for Arteta, very comfortable in midfield which I’m not sure is what we’re looking for at the moment

Andy Mitten was giving a lot of hints to an unexpected player/players who are not happy with their current situation and may try to orchestrate a move in a recent episode of TOTD. He clearly knew the specifics of who it was but didn’t want give more details.

This would make sense for that situation. Does that mean it will happen. No. But I wouldn’t be surprised if his agent is speaking to clubs to try force a move in summer. Or at least worry arsenal a bit into playing him more.

  12. Various-Low4016 on

This will be such a statement move if this happens… I know it is like a 0.000001% chance of happening but if we try to convince him that he will be a starting role here and persuade him of this project it will be such a baller move. He is a 3rd choice in Arsenal so maybe promise a starting role but I don’t see this happening as Arsenal are in a pole position in the league table and can win it and are in a very good position in the UCL as well.

  13. Not that these people are reliable, but would love MLS, he can cover two positions at a very high level.

  14. Doesn’t really make sense to build a left side of Lewis-Skelly and Cunha, wouldn’t be much width. Reckon Hall is the better option

  15. Surely not?

He’s just not a good left back, but might oneday be an okay left winger. We just have no need for either of those.

  16. No-Lecture-6434 on

Do they just put every left back in the Prem into a random number generator and write an article on whoever appears?

I would be happy if we went for a left back this summer. I feel like Shaw has been showing his age and the toll of all the injuries even in one game a week (I might be alone in that). I don’t think he’ll last if Europe is back in play next season.

  18. I think alot of people are forgetting that MLS isn’t a LB by trade, he was only deployed there because Arteta had his LB inverting. He came thru the academy as a deep lying 6, who could pickup the ball off his CB’s and progress up the pitch with his ball carrying ability. Yes, I know they’re just throwing names around like they always do, but if it DOES happen, this is more of a backup midfield option, rather than a backup LB option. Arsenal also have a surplus of fullbacks (which is where Arteta seemed to think his best fit was) which could make this a possibility, because if they deem him ‘not fit’ for the system, they could get rid of him for pure profit (kinda like the Garnacho situation).
