Michael Olise has emerged as one of the most exciting attacking players in European football over the past 18 months.
Since completing his move from Crystal Palace to Bayern Munich in 2024, the France international has taken his game to another level, forming part of a formidable frontline alongside Harry Kane and former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz.
But while his development in Germany has elevated his profile, it has also ensured that long-standing interest from the English Premier League has never truly disappeared.
Even prior to his move to Bayern, Olise had emerged as a serious transfer target for Liverpool, and despite his success at the Allianz Arena, those links have continued to surface.
In recent months, the situation has intensified to the point where Bayern Munich figures have been forced to address speculation publicly, with club directors responding to rumours around a potential release clause in his contract.
However, fresh reporting from Bayern Space now suggests there may be more to the story than Bayern’s public stance would indicate.
Bayern Space provide fresh insight into Michael Olise situation
According to Bayern Space, Liverpool have already been in direct contact with the representatives of Michael Olise, holding multiple conversations as they explore the possibility of a move to Anfield.
The report names both Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards as having been involved in those conversation and goes further, claiming that while Bayern Munich have consistently denied the existence of a release clause, there is in fact a more complex mechanism built into the player’s contract.
Bayern Space state that the structure of the clause allows Bayern to publicly distance themselves from reports of a traditional release clause, while still operating under an internal agreement with the player’s camp that would enable a transfer under certain conditions.
Rather than a fixed buyout figure, it is understood that a valuation model exists, with a fee in the region of 2.5 times Bayern Munich’s original outlay considered sufficient to trigger serious negotiations.
Having signed Olise for approximately €60 million, that would place a potential transfer fee in the region of €150 million (£125 million).
Crucially, Bayern Space also explain why Bayern’s public messaging has remained consistent throughout, noting that the club are expected to continue denying the existence of any clause while internally hoping the player remains part of their long-term project.
This distinction between public stance and private structure forms a key part of the wider context around the situation.
Michael Olise emerges as Mohamed Salah successor option
The timing of this development is particularly significant for Liverpool.
With Mohamed Salah’s departure now confirmed, the club’s recruitment strategy is shifting from long-term planning to identifying an immediate replacement in a key attacking role.
Bayern Space report that Liverpool view Michael Olise as a natural successor.
That makes sense with his profile, position and English Premier League experience making him an ideal candidate to fill that void.
Having already proven himself in English football with Crystal Palace, Olise would not require the same level of adaptation as a player arriving from outside the league, while his performances in Germany suggest he is more than ready to operate at the very highest level.
While Bayern Munich are expected to continue presenting a united front publicly, the details outlined by Bayern Space suggest that there is a pathway – albeit a complicated one – for a deal to happen.
With contact already established between Liverpool and the player’s camp, this is a situation that appears to be gathering momentum rather than fading away.
As has been the case throughout the season, Bayern Space maintain that their original reporting on the situation remains unchanged, with this latest update providing further backing to their earlier claims.
For Liverpool, the focus will now be on whether that interest can be turned into something more concrete in the months ahead.
It is with great pleasure that I can confirm, after months of investigation, that what I first reported back in August remains unchanged, Michael Olise has a release clause, with Liverpool, in the persons of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, not only fully aware of the…
