The Reform leader took a tour of Portman Road before releasing a video online showing him walking around the stadium and wishing them well in their promotion campaign.

It has gone down badly among many Town fans, who say the club should remain politically neutral, and has seen the Tractor Boys widely ridiculed online.

Canaries have been swift to seize on the row, with even Norwich City’s official Twitter feed getting involved.

The Norfolk club posted a message advertising its own tours of Carrow Road, with the message “Terms and conditions will most definitely apply”, accompanied by a grimacing face emoji.

Mr Farage then posted a reply to that message saying “see you next week”, with a winking emoji, an apparent reference to a rally he is holding at the Showground on March 31.

One Norwich fan said: “Yeah if you didn’t already know that Norwich were the pride of East Anglia, you do now.”

Others suggested chants for next month’s derby, including: “He’s one of your own!”

Darren Huckerby, the former Norwich star, joked: “This can’t be real, this is some Norwich fan using AI!”

Another Canaries fan compared it to the 2021 PR disaster when Norwich City signed a sponsorship deal with bookmakers BK8, prompting a revolt from fans over the gambling company’s sexualised marketing.

Mr Farage released the video after Reform held a rally in Trinity Park in Ipswich on Monday.

While Norwich fans have been enjoying the row, their Ipswich counterparts have been fulminating about Mr Farage’s surprise appearance at their club.

Kevin Craig, a former Labour parliamentary candidate and Ipswich fan, criticised it and claimed the club had previously hesitated to allow his charity to “give thousands of pounds” to the ITFC Foundation for fear of “being political”.

In a post on X, he said: “Very confused that the Board of Ipswich Town have hesitated and are still hesitating to let a local business (mine) become a regional sponsor (and give thousands of pounds to ITFC Foundation) because they are worried about ‘being political, ‘ and then yesterday happens.

“I am afraid it makes the club look politically aligned at the worst, or naïve and disjointed at best. Sad as I feel very invested in the club and its mission and values.”

Sources close to Ipswich Town claim no official invitation was made to Mr Farage to stage a photo opportunity at Portman Road.

But sources close to Reform insisted he had been invited by representatives of the club.

Nigel’s Ipswich love-in

On Monday evening, ahead of the Reform rally at Trinity Park, the party posted “Portman Road Awaits”.

Mr Farage followed up with a post on Tuesday morning, with club branding and sponsors clearly visible in the photos posted online.

“I’ve never been too bad on the right wing,” Farage wrote on his official X account.

The party made a photo of Mr Farage holding up a number 10 Ipswich shirt the banner on their official X account.

Reform then posted a video of Mr Farage at Portman Road, where he thanked the club for a “lovely welcome”.

Mr Farage said: “It’s a big end of the season for Ipswich, they’re really in contention to go back into the Premier League.

“Let’s hope they do, but if they don’t, I think there’s a chance here – I’ve had a chat with a few people on the manager’s job coming up next season and I’m definitely on the shortlist.

“The trouble is, there’s only one job I’m really after.”
