The Reform UK leader was pictured at Portman Road Stadium ahead of a rally at Trinity Park in Ipswich on Monday night.

During the visit he posed for a photo holding an Ipswich Town shirt that said Farage 10.

Another photo showed him sitting in front of similar shirts in the players’ changing room.

The MP for Clacton-on-Sea also shared a video wishing the team luck for the rest of the future.

It followed his visit to Felixstowe earlier in the day where his walkabout was cut short after meeting with a group of protestors.

The EADT and Ipswich Star understand that Reform didn’t use the party or Farage’s name when initially booking the private tour online and that the printed shirt was purchased rather than gifted.

The club has since released a statement stating the club remains apolitical.

The statement read: “Ipswich Town Football Club has, over several years, hosted representatives from a range of political parties. The club remains apolitical and does not support or endorse any individual or party.

The club will continue to engage with representatives from across the political spectrum as part of its role within the community.

Ipswich Town is proud to be an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming organisation that supports all members of the local and wider community. This commitment remains unchanged.”

Readers have been divided over Farage’s visit to the club with some saying it was an “overreaction” to a publicity stunt.

One said: “Bought a shirt recently, luckily it still has the tags on so I’ll be returning it tomorrow, shameful for the club I have supported all my life to say nothing about this.”

Another joked: “Think the club have misunderstood the fans when we have said we need to strengthen the right wing options.”

But some have defended the stunt, saying: “Anyone would think ITFC had let the leader of Hamas visit the ground judging by some of the pearl-clutching comments.”
