Former Everton FC player Marco Materazzi enjoyed a visit to the Cavern Club on his return to the city. The 52-year-old World Cup winner played for the Toffees for one season in 1998/99.

The centre back returned to the city this season as he watched his old side comfortably beat Chelsea 3 – 0 at the Hill Dickinson stadium on Saturday evening. Materazzi was thrilled to be back in Liverpool and he visited one of our city’s most iconic locations during his return.

The former Inter Milan player was pictured posing outside the mural of The Beatles inside the famous location where the Fab Four’s story truly got underway. The venue shared as snap on their social channels as he posed with his arms outstretched.

The post was captioned: “Milan to Mathew Street… Marco Materazzi taking in The Cavern Club.”

Everton fans were delighted to see the former centre half return to the club over the weekend. A post on the club’s official X and Instagram accounts said: “A World Cup winner, a legend of the game and – most importantly – the first ever Italian to play for Everton.

“Welcome to Hill Dickinson Stadium, Marco Materazzi!” Blues supporters took to the comments to welcome Materazzi back to the club where he made a strong impression in his single season.

Allison said: “Nice to see him in our new home” Lee added: “Serie A and CL winner too! Could always see the talent when he played for us.”

Bry added: “Welcome back Marco” Mark said: “We signed him in one of the first years I had a season ticket. I loved him”
