Southern Gas Networks (SGN) confirmed an updated programme affecting Romsey Road, Rownhams Road and Wimpson Lane, with a mix of closures, temporary lights and directional restrictions planned over the coming weeks.
The update, shared by Millbrook councillor Jeremy Moulton on March 16, outlines revised phases of work which are already under way and will run through to May 29.
Rownhams Road remains closed, while temporary traffic lights are in place on Romsey Road. SGN said the layout of the works and running lanes will change during this phase, although signals at Wimpson Lane will remain as they are.
From the week beginning March 23, work will move along Romsey Road between Winchester Road and Rownhams Road, continuing under temporary lights.
Further disruption is expected from March 30, when a westbound directional closure will be introduced on Romsey Road between Winchester Road and Redbridge Hill to allow for a key connection.
Temporary lights will then return from April 10 to May 4 as work progresses between Winchester Road and Ashmead Road. SGN said the busy four-way junction with Rownhams Road will remain open during this stage.
The final phase, from May 4 to May 29, will see a southbound directional closure on Wimpson Lane, with northbound traffic unaffected.
SGN said the work is part of a programme preventing future leaks and improving the reliability of supply.
A spokesperson said: “We understand our work can be disruptive for road users and residents; our engineers are committed to completing these works as quickly and as safely as possible.
“These works are essential to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and efficient gas supply to residents and wider community and avoid further disruptive gas leaks in the future.”
Residents with questions have been urged to contact SGN directly.
