[David Lynch] There’s not much else to say about this Liverpool team other than that they will surely miss out on Champions League qualification from here and fully deserve it. Injuries have played a part, but these players regularly look less fit and less well-organised than the opposition.

Hate to say this – Brentford and their players deserve that UCL spot over us.

  2. I can’t believe we’re risking CL qualification this much. Just get an interim in, Christ.

450m pounds spent and in the Europa League! If you’re not embarassed by that you’re lying to yourself. Just give him the fucking boot.

Injuries are an excuse. He doesn’t even get that.

Even when the team has had the majority of players fit we looked abysmal. How many games have we actually looked good in this year? Like 4/5 total?

And don’t get me started on the volume of injuries creeping up the more unfit and poorly conditioned the players look.

  4. If our inept board sacked our hopeless manager months ago we wouldn’t be on this position, not good enough for a club of our level

It’s absolutely insane how much we spent and we’re so much worse than last season. Not getting a Diaz replacement ruined us. Need another overhaul this summer and we’ll have no champions league to offer

I don’t attend many games these days but one of mates still does, he mentioned the fitness drop off is evident in games but mentioned the warm ups look slack and lacking intensity. It’s not usually televised so just wondering if any other match goers can weigh in on it?

A section of the fan base, and the board, were willing to take this risk when there was huge pressure for him to go in January. They said no to sacking slot.

Alonso was available and could have been given half a season to see if he could turn it round before going all out next time.

As it is Alonso will probably get snapped up before they cut Slot loose and then the pool of managers goes to coaches like Iraola or Silva.

    Inaction was a choice.

  8. David lynch one of the only liverpool journalists that has been criticizing Slot this season.

  9. Lynch is the best of the local journalists.

Rest are so scared to say much in case they dont get any more information from the club.

Joyce,Pearce,Ornstein all so safe add nothing

  10. I wonder how long the delusional fans keep backing Slot to turn this around. It’s beyond insanity at this point. If we stick with Slot beyond this Summer you can kick away Liverpool’s next 3-4 years good bye.

I’ll say it again and again, the only reason he won’t the title last season was cause he was riding Klopp’s wave the first 6 months. We’ve been shit for the better part for 18 months since Jan 2025. The other clubs were also shit last season. City had a huge fall off. We only had Arsenal who didn’t want to win the title. We should have walked the league this season.

Imagine sticking with Rodgers if he won’t the title in 2013/14 when it would have been Suarez that carried us. Last season was Salah’s sensational first half but then even he disappeared in the second half.

It’s a combination of subpar conditioning/training and poor tactics week after week. Our players are gassed at 70’, which is why we give away late goals every league match.

  12. Man U at least had the courage to sack their manager in an attempt to save their season.

I can’t understand why our club thinks it’s worth jeopardizing the rest of the season by letting Slot see out the year.

The inaction behind the scenes is almost as infuriating as the dumpster fire on the pitch.

Injuries are a factor but that does not excuse the play style and tactics, the off the ball running and everything else wrong on the pitch. The players we have fit are more than good enough for top 4. The problem is solely on the manager and how he’s asking the players to play.

  14. Rustedfromtherain on

The fitness and tactics are the main issue for me, i cant work out how the fuck we want to play and being out ran so much this season is mind blowing when its usually us, either slot is telling his platers to conserve energy and there taking that literal or the training methods are wank and not helping with fitness at all

I can’t help but laugh. We always say that Chelsea and Aston villa will overtake us and we’ll miss out on champions league football because of how shit we are

Until you realise the other 2 teams are saying the exact same thing about their own team

Brentford aren’t helping themselves with 1 win in 5 games as well

This is basically one of the worst champions league races in history

  16. wanderluster88 on

The sacking of Aaron Briggs ends up being detrimental to Slot. There’s no more blaming set pieces. It really exposes how exposed his team and tactics are. We are beaten all over the pitch.

  17. Surely saying we are surely missing out on CL qualification is a bit premature no?

I’m as raging as everyone else but to assume Chelsea won’t drop before the end of the season is wrong too I feel

  18. I am 40 years old. Born and raised canadian. Son of parents from liverpool. My dad bleeds blue. I have been a liverpool fan since I was 10. Fan club, posters on the wall, school photos in a liverpool kit. I have never wanted to see the back of a manager so bad in my life.

I feel like Slot’s shithouse style kind of football is unpredictable in the Champions League, and that could help us win it, I don’t know. There’s this weird similarities with Zidane’s Madrid from 2015-2018 with this Liverpool, that Madrid were losing like 4-0 to Atletico in the league phase. I mean we’re so shit it’s harder for the top European teams to figure us out, while we are also strong with individual quality, like Heisenberg’s Liverpool, both strong and weak at the same time.

Injuries have hardly played a part. We’ve barely had any major injuries. We went through a period where we practically played our title winning starting eleven minus Trent and Diaz (and Kerkez in for Robertson) and still looked poor. This is clearly a training/fitness issue

  21. mnemonikerific on

heard the commentators rattle off BHA’s ages and state that yet Liverpool players seemed more fatigued

  22. RopeRemarkable5454 on

This whole fucking season needs to end. These guys just don’t get it. Get rid of Gakpo with slot and him both getting on a plane back to holland.

  23. Smallrobot_77 on

Lack of fitness and fatigue has been the obvious problem since day one. Players (aside from the scattered few) seem uninterested in league games since before the new year. Seems Slot doesn’t put too much in conditioning

  24. HarbyFullyLoaded_12 on

It’s pathetic the way our bord sacrifices entire seasons. By not backing Klopp when even the most regarded arm chair expert on reddit could tell there’s a glaring gap in the team and now by backing a clueless manager taking us nowhere. We have such a long sample size to tell this is not going to work and never will work so what data are they lookinh at that makes them think this will work

  25. Barmydoughnut24 on

Maybe injuries have played a part, but i feel we’ve been plagued by injuries wayyyy harder during Klopp. This goes significantly deeper than that

  26. Is top five enough to secure CL? That still feels attainable. But perhaps only if Slot goes and is replaced by a competent caretaker.

  27. radiant_rebelx on

i told myself i wouldn’t get emotionally attached to this team anymore… and yet here i am reading takes like this and feeling personally attacked 😭

  28. SnabDedraterEdave on

FSG, Edwards and Hughes et al will also be to blame for stubbornly refusing to pull the trigger when the writing was clearly on the wall back in January or even November, and now it might probably too late to pull that trigger, as Slot kept on dropping points against “easy” opponents, and now only difficult opponents remain.

  29. Altersreality on

Lunch doesn’t work for a local/national paper, and he has built enough of a following on substance so he can say what he wants, which I appreciate.

Objectively, this was a pathetic performance, and the head coach should be ashamed of himself.

  30. There’s no point sacking Slot now, the damage has been done. He should have been sacked months ago but Hughes is an incompetent fraud who wants to save face. It’d be too little too late, Gerrard or anyone else isn’t rescuing the season. We had every club do us multiple favours these past few weeks and we have absolutely blown it.
So let Slot see out the rest of the season and let it serve as a lesson to the higher ups when we finish 9th and miss out on millions and millions of pounds.

  31. And yet we can perform like we did in Europe the other night, it’s baffling why the manager is getting the team to play in such completely different ways from one game to the next!!

  32. The Champions League is overrated anyway. Europa cup or Conference League for the win.

  33. It will get worse from here but FSG will back Slot untill the season ends and maybe further like until Xmas
