Southampton City Council and Enerveo are working together to upgrade lighting as part of the South Coast LED upgrade project.
The project will involve replacing more than 8,300 street lights across the city with LED units over the next year, aiming to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 35 per cent, equal to 286 tonnes annually.

A spokesperson for Southampton City Council said: “We are delighted to be expanding our long standing partnership with Enerveo to bring the well-known benefits of LED lighting to our city’s streets.
“By becoming a part of the South Coast LED upgrade project, we’re delivering on our City Plan missions for a more sustainable, greener and safer city.”
LED lighting uses less energy and lasts longer than traditional lighting, supporting the council’s commitment to reaching net zero.
The programme follows a period of design, consultation and approval.
