As reported, the A31 at Ringwood on the Dorset and Hampshire border was partly closed after the crash just before 3pm on Thursday, March 19.

Officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police have now confirmed the motorcyclist suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for the force said: We were called at 2.43pm to a report of a motorcycle colliding with the central reservation on the A31. The motorcyclist has suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.”

At the time, motorists were asked to avoid the area if possible after one lane was closed causing long delays to traffic.

Tailbacks of up to 30 minutes were forming back to St Ives from the A338 turn off to Salisbury.

Traffic was also backed up on the A338 approaching the Ashely Heath Roundabout.

A spokesperson for National Highways at the time said: “One lane is closed due to a collision involving a motorcycle. Police and an ambulance are at the scene.

“Delays of just over 30 minutes have been reported, and three miles of congestion, back to St Leonards.”

One motorist on their commute home said that traffic was ‘stop start’ for several miles.

The road was cleared just after 5pm.
