The programme, backed by £1 billion in government funding, aims to create 200,000 jobs and apprenticeships.

Tom Hayes, the Labour MP for Bournemouth East, said: “I’m passionate about opening the doors of opportunity because every young person deserves the chance to see their hard work rewarded and achieve their dreams for the future.

“Businesses are the engine of local growth and national prosperity, and this £1bn of funding is going to the employers who have been asking for flexibility to create practical routes into work.”

The scheme includes a £3,000 payment to businesses that employ eligible 18 to 24-year-olds who have been on Universal Credit and seeking work for six months.

From Autumn 2026, all eligible 18-24-year-olds on Universal Credit who have been seeking work for 18 months will get 25 hours per week of fully subsidised paid work for six months.

Further incentives include £2,000 for SMEs hiring apprentices aged 16 to 24.

Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge said: “I welcome this announcement, which will provide amazing opportunities for young people to learn a trade and earn along the way.”
