Work has begun on 228 homes which will overlook Leicester City’s training ground.

The scheme, which will be known as Foxes View, will take up 28.5 acres of land in Barnards Drive, in Sileby, near Loughborough and according to developers will bring “much-needed” housing to the area.

When the planning application was first drawn up in 2021, it attracted more than 40 objections from residents over highway safety and congestion, as well as fears over increased pressure on local services.

However, work has now started to bring the homes to life as Vistry Group joined forces with Midlands Heart on the project.

Situated on the eastern edge of Sileby, the developers said the houses will “integrate with the existing community”, as it delivers six one-bed homes, 45 two-beds, 137 three-bed properties and 40 four-beds. Developers added that 153 of the homes will be classed as affordable too.

According to the plans, the houses will be built using “modern methods” and will include the production of timber-frame panels at Vistry’s factory in Bardon, near Coalville.

It is a move the new owners say will improve the sustainability and speed of the construction process.

Andy Reynolds, managing director of Vistry South East Midlands, said: “We are thrilled to have secured reserved matters approval and to be working with Midland Heart to deliver much-needed mixed-tenure homes.

“This milestone demonstrates our commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable homes in a sustainable manner, enhancing communities and meeting diverse housing needs.

“As construction begins, we look forward to welcoming residents from across the region. Foxes View will offer modern family homes in a well-connected, thriving part of Leicestershire, and we are proud to be contributing to its future growth.”
