All things considered, and yes, he isn’t a top-flight player, it is worth thinking that 15+ months of this wait must be awful to deal with. I understand that he’s taken an illegal substance, but these sporting bodies are so slow to deal with these issues.

The club probably have the right to terminate his contract and/or sue him for the value of his contract. However, they probably won’t do this as he has a long contract and could still produce some measure of value on the latter years. More probably, they would do so as they don’t want to be seen by other player and their agents as being a risky club to work with.
