Yoro: “Having Harry in the team is good for us. If he can stay next season, it’s really good for us. With all the experiences he has, he gave a lot of tips. Sometimes before the game, or at HT, about positioning too, so playing with him is really good for me. We speak a lot, even before the game”

  1. Yoro was particularly effusive in his praise for Maguire, who has been a consistent performer during this period.

“Yeah, of course, having Harry in the team is good for us,” Yoro stated. “If he can stay next season, it’s really good for us, so I hope he’s going to extend his contract and he can stay with us. We’ll see, we’ll see anyway.”

The defender, who is reportedly hoping for an England recall, has re-established himself as a key figure after experiencing both highs and lows since his £80m move in 2019.

The young Frenchman also highlighted the importance of Casemiro, whose influence was evident as United secured a vital 3-1 victory against [Aston Villa](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/aston-villa), a match in which the Brazilian opened the scoring.

Fans chanted for Casemiro to stay for “one more year” during the game. Yoro echoed this sentiment, saying: “Everyone wanted him to stay. He’s a really important player for us, he showed it again today.

**“Even in the dressing room, every day, he has the experience that no one else has in the team. He won everything, so this helped us a lot in the games and even outside the pitch.”**

Despite this, Casemiro, a former Real Madrid star, indicated in January that he would be leaving this summer, making a new deal appear less likely than for Maguire.

Yoro himself has overcome a shaky spell earlier in the campaign, and credits playing alongside seasoned professionals like Maguire for his improved form.

“I think every player has this phase in a season,” he reflected. “Sometimes you have bad moments, bad performances, and I’m happy to do good games now, to rebound well, so I’m just happy with the result.”

He added that Maguire’s guidance has been invaluable: “With all the experiences he has, he gave a lot of tips, he spoke to me a lot on the pitch, so this helped me a lot.

“He always speaks with me, like with the striker, sometimes he speaks before the game, or at half-time, about positioning as well, so playing with him is really good for me.”

Looking ahead, Yoro is focused on securing a top-four finish and bringing Champions League football back to Old Trafford.

**”I think every player wants to play Champions League, especially when you play for United,” he affirmed. “This club has to play the Champions League, so hopefully we’re going to get it next season.”**

    Maguire will surely be staying.

    – reckon he’ll accept a lower salary overall
    – 2+1 maybe
    – hits the English/homegrown quota which is needed too

  3. Would love our centre-back partnership to slowly start becoming Heaven and Yoro but we have to keep Harry around even if he’s not playing as often. There’s no doubt players in that dressing room look up to him given what he’s gone through. Helps that he’s also fucking solid too.

Maguire really did rise from his ashes. I’m so glad for him. He closed a lot of mouths.

We can’t lose Maguire and Casemiro at the same time right? That’s too much experience being lost.

  6. None of our young CBs have the same aerial presence as Maguire. De Ligt is good but not nearly as good. We cannot lose both him and Casimero. In my opinion he’s an absolute must re-sign, he’s been nothing but fantastic for us since his meme years – I can hardly recall when his last poor game for us was

A lot of the young guys we kept seem so eager to learn from the vets. It’s very encouraging after the personalities that have come through in recent years

Harry is just one of those players you want to have around. Even when he was in awful form, he never complained and worked hard. Pure professional

  9. “Maguire? Useless. No need to extend I can fill his shoes better”. Don’t get me wrong it’s nice to say anyway but it’s not like he can say anything else.

Even during Amorim’s tenure, the back line looked more solid and cohesive with Maguire. De Ligt, Yoro & Heaven can learn a lot & get better from playing with Harry who has been through everything in his career.

  11. Is this season the first time Bruno, Casemiro and Maguire have all been at their best at the same time?

I think it might be. 22/23, when we came 3rd under ETH, was Casemiro’s first season. He and Bruno were great, but Maguire was in his bad period, lost his place to Varane/Martinez and was stripped of the captaincy.

23/24, Maguire improved but Casemiro dropped off. Bruno was great.

24/25, they were all OK, not at their best, but no one was. Shit season.

Having those three a their best, especially since January, has provided such a solid backbone of experience, leadership and quality. I just wish it has happened a couple of seasons ago. Unfortunately, it comes to and in May. And we all find ourselves worrying about how we’re going to replace them.

  12. Maguire has matured like a fucking 25 year old Burgundy Pinot Noir.

He went through a bad patch where his head clearly wasn’t right and instead of shrinking and losing his confidence he’s knuckled down and used those experiences to turn himself into an absolute destroyer. Dominates the box. Can always ping a diagonal. Gets his huge head on aerial balls in both boxes.

He’s absolutely in his prime. He’s the best version of himself he’s ever been. I genuinely can’t name a better CB in the league at the moment.

  13. I’ll be honest when he rejected west ham I thought he was a fool and he should have left, I was so wrong the man have been so important to us and been a class act and I apologise

  14. Before we scored the second, villa had a breakaway that could have even more dangerous if Yoro didn’t cleverly “prevent” Abraham from joining the attack at the halfway line. Definitely something Maguire would do.

This doesn’t seem like a hard thing to make happen I guess. Top prem teams will not go for him. United will want to lowball him into taking just a bit more than mid table teams would offer and he should be taking it. Only thing that can fuck it up is Inter IMO if he fancies a “new challenge”
