Charlie Chadwick’s early strike settled the clash at Turf Moor.

Burnley strengthened their title hopes while AFC Bournemouth’s took a hit in the FA Women’s National League.

Fulham and Swindon Town improved their positions in the race for promotion, and there were big wins in Division One Midlands.

Burnley move ahead

Turf Moor was a fitting setting for Burnley’s 1-0 win over title rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The top two facing off deserved a grand setting, and the Premier League stadium provided it with the rain-soaked match settled by Charlie Chadwick’s early goal.

It means the Clarets now sit four points ahead of Wolves, who have a game in hand, at the top of the Northern Premier Division.

Meanwhile, West Bromwich Albion put further room between them and the bottom half of the table with a 2-1 win over Hull City.

Cherries held by old enemies

AFC Bournemouth’s hopes of gaining automatic promotion from the Southern Premier Division were dealt a blow by Exeter City.

The two teams, who had frequent battles in Division One South West, renewed their rivalry in the third tier with three late goals contributing to a 2-2 draw.

Georgia Wilson netted early on for the visitors before Sarah Stacey equalised on 81 minutes.

The Cherries were only temporarily behind with Amber Treweek putting her side back in front only for Stacey’s second in the 86th minute ensuring the points were shared.

Watford are one point clear of Plymouth Argyle, with Bournemouth a further three points back, after both the Golden Girls and the Greens triumphed.

Watford beat Real Bedford 2-1 on Friday night with a late Poppy Wilson winner, while Plymouth Argyle beat Cheltenham Town 3-0.

Fulham hit the half-century

In their first Division One South East campaign, Fulham continue to lead the way after a 6-0 win over Chesham United.

They are four points ahead of Norwich City, while Chatham Town are sitting comfortably in the top four after a 3-0 win over Actonians.

The Chats have two games in hand on the division leaders, and one game in hand on London Bees, who are just one point and one place ahead of them.

Swindon hit the front again

The only game in Division One South West was a significant one as Swindon Town’s 5-0 win over Abingdon United sent them back top.

The Robins have suffered just one defeat all season and now lead Moneyfields by two points having played their game in hand.

Annie Colston and Billie Haynes each scored braces in the 5-0 win, as Lacy Liggett got the other goal.

Posh take pole position

Peterborough United’s big win over Stourbridge put them in charge of Division One Midlands.

The Posh were six to the good at half-time as Jessica Rousseau netted a hat-trick with a goal in the first minute setting her off, eventually triumphing 8-0.

Peterborough now lead Boldmere St Michaels by two points with a game in hand, while Leafield Athletic got a 10-0 win over bottom side Lincoln United.

💬 “I know as a team every game is big for us, and points matter. To score early on, similar to last week as well, it settles the nerves down.”
