When these two played together as our CBs for the very first time, it became increasingly apparent (to me anyways) that they were NOT bad, like, AT ALL. It felt off at first? Sure. But did they improve after every game together? Absolutely. I felt they worked well. I don’t know if it’s because of Gerard’s left-footed instinct, or Cubarsi’s overall attributes that complement him, but something clicked; and it hasn’t stopped working since.
We can no longer ignore that these two may very well be our best CB pair, by a HUGE margin IMO. Eric doesn’t even come close. And honestly? I’d put him anywhere BESIDES CB and I’d trust Eric completely. But if you pair him with Cubarsi, something just doesn’t feel right. They feel disjointed, even.
But Gerard? I dunno. It just FEELS right.
Cubarsi on his own is already strong physically. But with Gerard next to him? I feel like we have two titans staring down any attacking lineup. That game against Newcastle basically confirmed it for me. I legit felt we would lose that game throughout the 90 minutes. Scratch that. I felt like we were going to lose by AT LEAST 2–3 goals.
But it just didn’t happen.
Why?
Because these two absolute (in tune) beasts REFUSED to give an inch, whether the ball was in the air or on the turf. It was honestly insane to me that we only conceded one goal that day. Of course, the entire team should be praised for it since they defended as a UNIT almost all game, but I’m sticking to CB talk right now. Either way, I feel confident whenever they start together. Let me know your thoughts. I can’t possibly be the only one seeing something here.

Defense was better yesterday the new tactics is working. If the team push forward like this we have chance for UCL.We cannot bottle the easiest path of the CL.

And Garcia as RB
I am only concerned why our defense cant defend one vs one and why the whole team cant clear crosses coming in our box.
Our striker is more threatening than our defence at this point
I dunno about you lot but I was floored by Espart yesterday. The boy is so confident, calm on the ball, solid in defence, and seems to have a very good work rate. Love to see more of him.
Right…so we’re on a streak and this mofo casually drops a jinx post.
