The winger marked his first start of 2026 with the bizarre goal which secured a 1-0 win at Sundetland.

He also created a great early chance for Jack Hinshelwood and had some scrapes near his own goal in the minutes just before he was substituted.

Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler said: “He showed danger on the left side and, when he scored, he came from the right side.

“We know he can always do unpredictable things.

“He has the quality not many players have and I’m really happy for him because he overcame a really difficult phase he went through.

“He understood what he needs to come back on the pitch. He was waiting for his chance.

“Then he got his chance and I think he used it in a really positive way.”

Minteh caused chaos with an up-and-under into his own penalty area and committed two fouls in quick succession which had home fans calling for him to be sent off for two bookings.

Hurzeler said: “I think it’s important to understand that it’s a very emotional place here.

“The crowd is loud and energetic and therefore we all want to stay calm, but sometimes it’s so emotional that players react to it and I think he didn’t do a dramatic action

“It was a yellow card but then, of course, afterwards we needed to protect him.

“I think that’s the thing we have to work on with him, to keep doing unpredictable things offensively, but keeping more reliable defensively.

“Keep doing the easy things in our half and therefore we keep working with him

“He understood now more and more what it needs to work for the team, what it needs to not only be a great offensive player but to be there as a defensive player for this team and therefore he’s going for a very interesting process and I’m really happy with him, how he’s doing it.

“It’s always important that, when you have like tough moments, to also have like really positive experience and this goal today should give him like another boost, should give him a confirmation that he’s on the right way, and now we have to keep working with him.”
