  1. Villa with the easiest table. A must win game tomorrow if we want to finish ahead

  2. I would argue none of the teams vying for a top 5 finish are playing well. Villa potentially the worst but the Newcastle match has really altered my view of the team. We really need to win against Villa and then I’ll be far more confident. Chelsea and Liverpool have found it hard to find form across the season but you just never know.

Feel like tomorrow game is massive

We are heading into a tough run of fixture

Getting a 3 point buffer over Villa could be significant

Our slight advantage is the number of home games we have left: 5 home games against 4 away games. This season we perform well at home, so there is some stability there for us. Chelsea and especially Liverpool are too shaky all around, so it is hard to guess what they’ll do. Chelsea couldn’t beat Burnley and Leeds at home. Liverpool beat Forest and Sunderland away, but then lost to Wolves. I think Villa may find their form again after our game, but it is an unpredictable season so who knows.

As a comparison, at home we are the best among these 4 teams, and 3rd overall in the Premier League. But away, we are the joint worst among the 4 teams alongside with Liverpool, and 7th overall. Chelsea are exceptionally good at playing away, they are 2nd on the overall away table.

At this point it’d be very disappointing if we don’t get top five. All three of them are currently in European competitions, we’ve got two out of three of our rivals at home, currently 3 points ahead of two of them with 9 games to go, and they’ve arguably all got harder remaining games than we do, especially Villa ending the season with Liverpool then City.

I think if any team is going to lose out it’ll be Villa. They’ve been poor all season and carried heavily by overperforming their xG earlier in the season. Their fanbase is very hesitant at the minute and the atmosphere at Villa Park is shakey (friends a season ticket holder, said there’s been only a handful of games the entire season where everyone has been happy with the performances alongside the result). If they make it deep in Europe then their final run of games involves Liverpool fighting for top five and City fighting for the league. On top of Villa needing to plan around European knockouts, potentially a final at that point.

If we end up fifth then from this position it’d be a shame but still a good finishing spot considering where we were compared to Villa before Carrick came in. But if we miss out on top five that’d be something that doesn’t seem possible from this position and the form/remaining fixtures of every team. All four teams are gonna drop points, and I’m confident we’ll be able to match the others at worst. Winning against Villa would be massive especially if Chelsea drop points today and Liverpool do Dr Tottenham a favour tomorrow.

Those last 2 games for Villa are Ls, no doubt. As long as we’re within 3 points of them by then we’re claiming a CL spot.

It’s annoying that we could have had a potential 9 point lead on 6th after last week but if we see Villa as the main competition for the last CL spot then we got lucky they lost while we did too.

  7. How likely is it that England/PL will not get an extra space from the coefficient?

City, Chelsea, spurs all going into the 2nd leg 3 down. Liverpool 1 down. Arsenal in the strongest position drawing with Leverkusen.

This is as tight as it could be for us..

Villa, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Liverpool, Brentford, Brighton.

All these opponents have made life hard for us and can sting us badly. Need to be on our toes and treat every match as a cup final.
