**García calls it an honor to be Ajax’s coach: ‘The philosophy is amazing’**
Óscar García considers it a great honor to be Ajax’s (interim) coach. The Spaniard made this clear during his first press conference in his new role ahead of Saturday’s Eredivisie match against Sparta Rotterdam.
“It feels like coaching FC Barcelona. Many of my teammates there came from here. The philosophy and everything that goes with it is amazing. It’s an honor to be here.”
Last Sunday, Ajax announced that Fred Grim, who had only been leading the team since November as a replacement for the dismissed John Heitinga, would be replaced by García as head coach. The Spaniard had only recently joined Jong Ajax.
García is an acquaintance of the new technical director, Jordi Cruijff. Both played for FC Barcelona in the 1990s, and Cruijff and García also worked together at Maccabi Tel Aviv.
García frequently uses the word “aura,” referring to the atmosphere surrounding the club. “You realize how big this club is and how important it is to the people. The least we can do is bring this club back to where it belongs. Our obsession is to make the fans proud of how we fight for everything, for every ball, playing in the Ajax style.”
**Jong Ajax**
García was preparing for Jong Ajax’s match against FC Den Bosch when Cruijff approached him. The Spanish coach had been at the helm of Ajax’s youth team since last month.
“Jordi asked me to help the first team, and I said yes right away. It wasn’t planned. Two hours later, he confirmed that everyone was on board.”
García immediately reviewed many Ajax matches with his coaching staff. “We looked at key areas we can change in this short time.”
The coach also mentioned the word “philosophy.” “Tactically, we know how Ajax has always played. I share the same philosophy. I grew up in Barcelona, so I know the playing style fairly well, and I want to give players confidence and show everyone that they are capable of winning matches.”
**Type of Coach**
García didn’t want to immediately address what kind of coach he wants to be. He’s leaving that up to his team. “I’ve had good experiences with the coaches I had as a player. I’ve taken the best from all of them, but I’d rather not say what kind of coach I am. I’d prefer my players to explain that better than I can.”
“I’m very demanding; otherwise, you can’t achieve good results. If I had to choose one word, it would be ‘demanding.’”

Elke trainer hetzelfde verhaaltje haha.

Europees voetbal halen.

Beetje mediterraans bloed kan geen kwaad met de emotie- en passieloze leegte dit seizoen.
Off: ik heb 2 kaartjes over voor morgen! Naast elkaar, vak 425. Graag DM.
