Flick: "We weren't good, but we took advantage of the opportunity we got. It's not easy playing on this pitch. The positive thing is the result. You'll see a different match at Camp Nou."

Flick: "With the ball, we didn't put in a good performance, we lost a lot of possession and made easy mistakes, and as you know, that's usually what Newcastle wants."

Flick: "We didn't want to take risks with Eric, because he's a very important player for us. He can play in several positions, and that's why I said I wouldn't risk him. We have enough quality players who can replace, and you can see that when Espart came into the match, he was great. He came in straight away and was present, even in the individual duels. And that's what I want to see, and I'm very happy about that."

🗣️: “Today's match was very physically intense. So, there are players who haven't played in a large number of matches, and they've also returned after a long rest period, and Bernal as well. So they need to improve physically step by step, and they will improve, and this is very important for us."

🗣️: “Usually, you can see that when we have control and keep the ball, things become easier for us, but that didn't happen much today. That's how tough the match was, we have to accept that, but we need to be much better next week."

Q- What are your thoughts on Araujo's performance?

🗣️: “Well, he did his job. We didn't want to change too many positions, so it was clear to me to play with the same defensive line. Then I asked Ronald if he was able to play in this position, and he said yes, and I think he did a decent job.”

🗣️: “In the end, you saw that he was tired, and he was no longer in the right timing at the time of their goal, but we also had enough players inside the penalty area to control that cross."

🗣️: “We have a young team, especially in the two central defensive positions where the two players are doing a fantastic job. In the recent matches, it was really great to see how they are developing and how they are playing together. It's a very good thing.”

🗣️: “We need to improve, yes. We have a lot of potential and we must make the most of it, and we need to make things better and deliver better performances."

🗣️: “Right now, we need to rest, because the players' task at this moment is to rest and prepare well for the next match. We have a game on Sunday, so we have a few days to prepare properly. We don't have any actual days off, but that's normal. When you play at this level, between the Champions League and La Liga, it's natural to have matches every three or four days."

🗣️: “Pedri? As you know, he suffered two injuries this season. He's now back from that injury, and of course, everyone wants to injure him because he's the player who controls the ball and can play under pressure. We agreed that he would play 60 or 65 minutes, and after that, we had to make the substitution, and we did it. We didn't take the score or anything else into consideration, my plan was to trust anyone who came after him."

Araujo fucked up so badly on the Newcastle goal. By not returning to his spot it allowed for the easy cross into the attacker.

  2. “Decent job”. Not a ringing endorsement a footballer wants to hear from his coach. Not at Barcelona.

Genuinely, why was Araujo crawling, which I think resulted in him being late which is why we conceded?

Edit: guess Araujo got injured. What’s with our fullbacks? Kounde, then Balde, now Araujo who played well in RB after a while gets injured too 🙁

  4. Decent job from the guy who should be our main CB given his age, time in this club and captaincy.

Striker is important, but we can’t keep going on with these half measures. Stop wasting years of Lamine and Pedri (and even Cubarsi).

Araujo has to leave in the summer along with Christensen.

Everything else is tricky to analyse in this match cause the players looked dead from the beginning.

All things considered, we need to keep surviving until the fullbacks are back, De Jong, and even Gavi.

That’s the thing, to win the UCL, mediocrity won’t cut it. Every position needs to have above average or atleast 7/10 rating players.

  6. We struggled so bad last year against Inter milan. The same Milan got schooled by PSG in finals.

Matches like these make me feel we arent even top 5 in Europe.

Why were Newcastle constantly firing on the goals and us being so repetitive 😭

  7. Rapha also just stood there, but we really shouldn’t put araujo as a stater, especially in UCL.

Flick is being a good Manager. However, it is clear, Araujo is a liability for his system. I admire that fact that he is trying to teach/help Araujo but at some point he has to cut his loses and move on.

Today’s blame should fall completely on our forwards. We did well defensively. Except Araujo’s error it was a good defensive performance. But Raphinha and Lewy were ghosts whereas Yamal couldn’t do much with the other two. Fermin too was really bad with his passes. We are not winning the CL this year but we better atleast get to the semis

Completely on flick. Why have you played araujao at rb? That guy limits our first phase buildup and puts pressure on yamal as there’s no ball sender when the passing lanes are blocked between him and yamal. No ball circulation is possible with araujao, pedri had to circulate the ball between yamal and araujao. In a big away game flick handicapped his best player by playing araujao besides him.
