  1. Carrick is just papering the cracks. We haven’t been that good in that last 4 games.

  2. Šeško has beautiful foot work and yesterday link-up play was weird , none was able to understand Bruno’s passes .

  3. Bruno was too wide during the game to provide crosses from deep.

It should really be our fullbacks providing those crosses Bruno’s been providing in recent games, but we don’t have full backs who can reliably cross or pick the right pass.

  4. The midfield “engine room” was found out big time last night. And indeed over the last 4 matches.

And Cunha is not suited to the left-wing position.

Maguire and Yoro actually look more threatening bringing the ball forward than most of our midfield and attackers.

Bad performance yesterday. They ran harder and we just did not make use of the extra man by playing wide. Especially on the left. We had no left footer in either position. The midfielders were not confident enough to switch play early. We still had chances but the players it fell to were not good enough. Yoro header falling to either Maguire or Casemiro would likely be a goal. Also I felt we went long too early. Would have liked to see more progression late on before crossing it in from wide instead of hoofing it from back into Maguire.

I am happy though because this will at least stop our delusional fans who thought we were in the title race or could have ever bee we just do not have the squad to play 3 games a week. We have a good 11-13 players. You need 16 to 18 fir a title charge due to injuries. Martinez is greatly missed in these games where we try to pass through teams. Mainoo needs to improve in his line breaking passes and long ball switches to reach the next level.

Was hoping we’d see Mbeumo and Cunha switch wings and get them whipping crosses into the box for Sesko

I love Bruno and he should have had 3 assists in the 2nd half. However, there was an instance in the first half, almost a replica of the goal vs Palace wherein Sesko was peeling off toward the back post, Bruno lined up the cross and instead of copying what he did vs Palace he decided to… play it along the ground? I’m assuming it was a rare mishit from #8 but I found it very odd.

There were a lot aimed at him in the box though. Bruno was looking for him all match, but couldn’t find the perfect ball.

  9. We’re missing Martinez, Bruno is having to drop deep to grab the ball, which affects the pace. I love Yoro, but he’s just not Martinez when it comes to ball playing ability. Pair that with lack of width, which we have struggled with since Dorgu has been injured (hence why I believe the performances have been a bit more lacklustre since the Arsenal games).

I’d love to see us bounce back, it can’t be easy going from playing 3 days, and then break for 10+ days, the random small to large gaps can’t help with rhythm, but that’s on us.

  10. Newcastle completely countered carrick-ball by stacking the middle of the pitch.

Tactically carrick loves a central build up.

I’m scared this will be a problem going forward now and other teams will just crowd the centre of the pitch. We need Dorgu back asap.

I do not understand why is he not the Centre of Gravity from the wings with such advantage due to his height..they can cross to him for headers but they make him play deep with the midfield…Crosses from Cunha, mbuemo & Fernandes to head it in…

He is at disadvantage due to his height too because he is not quick or agile…

  12. What happens when your midfield is completely shit and lb/rb don’t put crosses in and just pass it sideways when they get into crossing positions. There are too many passengers in this team but when they have 1 good game they get hyped up again. Standards are mudded

  13. It would be good to see Cunha be able to collect the ball deeper and bring it forward and progress the ball to the likes of Bruno and Mbuemo to then make the final pass. Bruno making all those passes from the deep midfield position towards the end of the game felt like a bit of a waste

  14. Back to ‘we thou shall not service our centre forward’. It didn’t take long. We are so back

Im so jealous of teams having overlapping fullbacks that puts regular crosses into the box, and it seems to be all of them…

Thought the management got it wrong yesterday. 2nd half we should have pinned their fullbacks with two proper wingers (Mbuemo and Amad) and suffocated them with possesion, but fell into the trap of fighting in midfield which we had lost all game. Newcastle had ran themselves into the ground by their own doing, not by us torturing them. Complete lack of game control or taking advantage of the extra man.

Heaven would have been an astute choice in keeping the ball and breaking the lines through that second half.
