[Andy Mitten] Another defeat at St James’ Park for MUFC.
1-2 versus a team with 10 men. Beaten by a superb goal, but deserved little.
First defeat in 12 league games. First loss for Michael Carrick as MUFC manager.

Carrick played it too safe there. The players just caught that vibe too. Should’ve started the second half way more aggressive

It was bound to come. Sucks that it came at this juncture. Let’s see how the lads rebound after the break. We’ve got one thing to play for.

I guess losing against 10 men wasn’t Amorim’s fault entirely? Needed to see the same outrage we saw then

In desperate need of signings in the midfield and full back positions.

All round poor performances from the team, I knew it would be a hard game but even still it felt they were so wasteful in front of goal

For some reason, I am not crazy upset about this defeat. Let’s see how the team and Michael Carrick respond; they have been subpar most of the game and most of the game against Palace.
Bruno fantastic as usual.

It was going to happen against some point, shame it had to be Newcastle and Eddie Howe dressed like he’s a Turkey at Christmas dinner. We’re still in a good place for champions league though and with the fixtures and points gap we have we should still make champions league.

1 defeat in 12 isn’t bad if you look at the larger picture. As long as we bounce back next game.
Newcastle were just diving to the floor and disrupted the game. Could tell they were frustrating our players with their theatrics.
Ref should have got a grip on the game.

We really do have the worst fullbacks and centre mids in the league.

Overnight we’re gonna go from Carrick in to Carrick out lmao. Poor performance today but it’s football. The defense were really off it and you gotta question not starting Heaven and subbing Malacia but apart from that, even with hindsight, not much Carrick did wrong. This match just tells us where our problems are. Cunha and Mbeumo were particularly poor today and if we’re playing just 1 game a week, then we need to do better than Bruno being the only one creating something

Honestly think we might have the worst midifled in the league. Outworked every game without fail, even against ten men. All good having a midfield full of technical quality, but if it’s got no legs we can never properly control games. Story of the season

Newcastle wanted to win, we wanted to walk it in

We haven’t won there since 2020, insane. Let’s see how he handles the loss, it had to come some day and it’s probably best that it came during the interim period. Just a shame the way it happened. Massive test in his job application

We’re not ready for Europe. We never look good when we play back to back.
I’m more confident in our team when it’s only one game a week.
I still think we’ll get CL qualification, but the football might not be pretty 😅

horrific subs from carrick imo, bringing on malacia who we’ve seen is barely even league 2 level last time he came on instead of heaven at RB who used to be a midfielder and we know that can work, but the worst thing was keeping mbuemo on for as long as he did despite the horror show he put on.

With such little time left in the game, wonder why carrick went for Malacia instead of Heaven there. Both players are left footed.

The talk of Carrick getting the job permanently has been ridiculous. Performances have been average since the Arsenal game and Sesko has saved us a lot. People are looking at the results but I look at performances too and this has been coming. And do you know what? If we keep playing like this then we won’t even beat Villa with the dire form they are in and injuries they have.

I fail to understand why can’t we keep the ball, especially if we have a man advantage. It’s not like they were pressing even. We just kept giving it away in silly manner.

Carrick needs to quickly realise this isn’t Boro where you can afford to play it safe. He should know this from when he played here. We had to go and win that and he was overly cautious to a fault. Poor.

This is on the players. Seen this lackluster performance with all of our previous “top managers”. This isn’t on Carrick. Players need to just show tf up and we win. Grimsby type effort

Villa soundly beaten by Chelsea and we’re against 10 men for most of the game. It was all set up for them to go get the win and go 3 points clear of Villa. But, no, that’d be too simple.
Malacia seemed like a guy comfortable in the knowledge he wasn’t coming on tonight and knows he’s not wanted. Probably thought: “Oh shit, I’m going to have to play”.
No-one covered themselves in glory tonight, apart from Bruno. Definitely need an engine man in midfield who can play. Ugarte isn’t it and Mainoo isn’t that type of player.
