Manchester United take on Newcastle in the Premier League. Michael Carrick has decisions to make that he is not in total control of.

Liverpool’s defeat to Wolves gives Manchester United more opportunity to gain further ground over our rivals, providing we can win against Newcastle.

Harry Maguire has been battling illness and did not complete the game against Crystal Palace.

He will be subject to a late decision. If Maguire is not passed fit to start, Ayden Heaven will step in to replace him and start alongside Leny Yoro.

Leny Yoro or Ayden Heaven?

Another dilemma emerges if Harry Maguire is passed fit, and it’s the topic of who should be his partner?

Leny Yoro started alongside Maguire in the last two matches, but he was at fault for Crystal Palace’s goal. Is it time to bring Heaven back in?

Heaven was the man of the match in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Newcastle in December.

Luke Shaw or Noussair Mazraoui?

Luke Shaw lasted only 24 minutes against Crystal Palace before being substituted, and Noussair Mazraoui stepped in as a more than capable replacement.

Mazraoui will hope that he has done enough to retain his place, even if Luke Shaw is passed fit.

Midfield stays the same or rotate?

This should be an easy decision, whether to stick with Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo. It is likely the duo retain their places.

The argument against is that Manchester United are playing for the second time in four days. Manuel Ugarte is fresh and could provide a different option.

If he is not selected then it is another sign that he could be on his way out of the club this summer.

Man Utd have not done the double over Newcastle in the league since 2020/21

The final choice for Michael Carrick is whether Benjamin Sesko will keep his place in the starting line-up, after seizing his chance against Crystal Palace.

Amad was the player who dropped to the bench. Carrick must evaluate his options to decide that if Sesko does start, is it Amad to stay on the bench, or Matheus Cunha or Bryan Mbeumo take a turn?
