Boston United have added further quality to their attacking options with the signing of highly-rated winger Luca Barrington until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old arrives at the Jakemans Community Stadium with an impressive footballing education behind him, having progressed through the academy at Manchester City before earning a move to Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2022 on a three-year deal.
Barrington did not make a senior appearance for Brighton, but he trained regularly with the first-team squad during the 2023–24 campaign and was included in Premier League matchday squads in December 2023. His development at youth level was notable, and he was part of the Brighton Under-21 side that won the 2024 HKFC Soccer Sevens, where he was named Player of the Tournament.
A two-footed attacking midfielder or left winger, Barrington stands at 1.79m and is comfortable operating on either flank. He was previously highlighted by The Guardian as one of the best first-year scholars in the Premier League, praised for his dribbling ability and willingness to take on defenders.
Senior experience came during a season-long loan spell with Grimsby Town in 2024–25. He made 38 League Two appearances for the Mariners, scoring four goals, and featured 43 times in all competitions. His first senior goal arrived in a 3-2 victory over Carlisle United in September 2024, a moment that underlined his ability to contribute in decisive moments.
After leaving Brighton at the end of his contract and spending the first half of this season without a club, Barrington now links up with Boston United at a crucial stage of the National League campaign. He is eligible to make his debut in Tuesday night’s fixture against Woking, giving Pilgrims supporters an early opportunity to see what he can offer.
For Boston, this represents a calculated move. Barrington is still young but brings Football League experience, high-level academy coaching and a profile suited to the demands of the National League. If he can quickly rediscover rhythm and sharpness after several months without competitive action, he has the tools to become a significant attacking threat during the run-in.
The Pilgrims have shown ambition in the market before, and this latest addition suggests they are keen to inject energy and creativity into the final third as the season enters its decisive phase.
