    ON THIS DAY 2020:

Newcastle travelled to the West Midlands for their fifth round FA Cup tie.

Early in the game, Allan Saint-Maximin smashed a thirty yard screamer off the bar, showing fans and players alike that he was very much in the mood.

ASM was the creative spark for the opening goal as he put through Almirón with a perfectly weighted through ball for the Paraguayan to convert.

Almirón then added a second after a slick move and saw Joelinton backheel the ball into space for Almirón to smash in a second.

The third came as Almirón switched it wonderfully to ASM, who drilled in a low cross that was bundled over the line by on-loan Austrian winger Valentino Lazaro.

Three nil up, away from home, in the FA Cup fifth round, it was a great day to be in the away end.

As this was a Steve Bruce team, naturally, concentration slipped, and we conceded two goals late on to make for a nervy finish.

Newcastle did manage to hang on to their win, however, and sealed a place in the FA Cup quarter final.
