Is this the worst talent dearth in the center back position in the history of football? Compared to the previous generation of defenders, is this the worst all-time downgrade in overall quality for a position?

Saliba and Gabriel would be all time greats already if they didn’t play for Arsenal. Not all players are lucky to start at the top like Cubarsi or Asencio. Pacho will also be a great CB, already is actually.

  2. A lot of exciting names missing there, and there’s a lot of good talent already on that list.

  3. Well.. most of these players are only there because they’re young, like Cubarsi.

We still have Van Dijk, Marquinhos, Acerbi, De Vrij, N’Dicka and some good defenders that didn’t make the list.

But yeah.. it’s definitely a huge downgrade. I’ll personally take Pepe or Chiellini over all these names combined, not to mention Ramos & the rest of legends from the previous generation.

  4. Cubarsi is number two so I wouldn’t go too much on this list. I’ve never seen a center back make so many mistakes while still being called very good

  5. I think this goes for all positions nowadays even managers everything is just so lackluster it’s crazy

Saliba is the king. But for the young defenders in this list, we have to remember they still have to become mature in this position. As example. Sergio Ramos was not top from the beginning. He learned a lot over the years. He had his top between 27-33 for sure. In my opinion

Honestly, I disagree. This may sound subjective, but as Croatian, I think we will have one of the best defence im the world. Gvardiol as left back, Šutalo and Vušković as centre backs and Stanišić as right back. And all of them can play as centre backs. And honestly they would be much more valuable if they weren’t from Croatia.
