In the past, there has been plenty of talk about Cazorla returning to Arsenal as a coach, which would be such an exciting appointment.
Arsenal Insider understands that Arteta has final say on Arsenal coaching changes, so it will be interesting to see whether the 41-year-old ever returns to the club.
Mikel Arteta would love Santi Cazorla in his Arsenal coaching staff
Mikel Arteta and Santi Cazorla share a very close relationship, and although a return as a coach is unlikely, the Arsenal boss would love his fellow countryman to join his backroom staff.
Cazorla was a very popular figure in N5, and it was such a shame how injuries robbed him of more time playing for the North London club.
The Spanish international left the Gunners on a free transfer back in the summer of 2018, and there has been some chatter about making his return as a coach.
Benge told Inside Arsenal: “I love him so much. Every time there’s a spurious-sourced story in the Spanish press, that’s like, Mikel Arteta is going to add Santi Cazorla to the coaching staff. My heart just lights up.
“I know that even though I don’t think Mikel will ever do it, I know that, and I’m sure he would love the chance to. Those two loved each other.”
Rather remarkably, despite his age, Cazorla is still playing football for Real Oviedo, where he has made 15 appearances this season in La Liga.
When he does eventually retire, it will be interesting to see whether the midfielder opts to head into coaching and link up again with Arteta.
