Manchester United have been quiet in January for first-team signings, but the club has made an interesting addition to the academy setup.

Michael Carrick has gone through the January transfer window without having any new signings added to his Manchester United squad, and supporters are pleased Ineos are being patient.

It should set up an exciting summer transfer window with a bigger budget to land top targets.

But since the takeover, Ineos have shifted United’s transfer strategy and have put more importance on signing young players into the academy.

Confirmed by the agency HarwickSports, United have completed the signing of 19-year-old goalkeeper Solomon Honor from Blackburn Rovers.

The January transfer window has mostly been spent sending young academy players out on loan, but United have sealed a deal for Honor to strengthen their options at goalkeeper.

He is expected to join up with United’s Under-21s side, managed by Travis Binnion.

Honor came up through Manchester City’s academy and featured for their Under-18s side before making a move to Blackburn Rovers in 2021.

At Blackburn, Honor worked his way from the Under-18s to the Under-21s side and he has experienced two different loan spells.

In 2024, he spent a brief loan spell at Clitheroe, but he returned to Blackburn and then spent the rest of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Atherton Collieries.

What was meant to be a one-month loan deal ended up being extended to the end of the season. Now, Honor has made the move to United to continue his development at Carrington.

Interestingly, Honor will now be working alongside his brother Zico, who is also on United’s books.

Honor has his work cut out to make his way into the United first team.

Summer signing Senne Lammens has been a sensation since joining from Royal Antwerp, and at 23 years old he could be United’s No.1 for the next decade.

United loanee Radek Vitek is also just 22 years old, and Vitek has been thriving at Bristol City this season. He will be targeting a first-team spot when he returns in the summer.

Elyh Harrison, William Murdock and Dermot Mee have been United’s goalkeeper options in the academy this season, so Honor will be competing for places.
