Fulham have been told they need to do everything they can to keep Harry Wilson after Everton made an approach for the midfielder. The ECHO understands that the Blues enquired about the Wales international during the January transfer window.

Fulham turned that down but now have a fight on their hands as Wilson’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season. As well as Everton, a number of other clubs in the Premier League are believed to be monitoring the Welshman’s situation.

Wilson, who has made 173 appearances for Fulham, scoring 34 goals and registering 43 assists, is yet to make a decision on his future at Craven Cottage.

But when asked if Marco Silva’s side should try everything in their power to keep hold of Wilson, former Everton and Fulham forward Louis Saha, speaking to Gambling.com, replied: “They have to, he’s been a revelation and has done really well.

“He has moved around quite a lot in a few years, so I think it’s time for him to settle and show that he can, the same as Silva.

“I think he’s already scored maybe eight or nine goals this year, he can achieve more because he’s a very talented lad.

“He can play pretty much anywhere. It’s very unpredictable because he switches sides and the flow comes inside the pitch. It’s amazing, and he has great movement with the strikers.

“So I really like Fulham and what they offer him, and he scores screamers as well – so it’s unbelievable.”

Meanwhile, former Fulham captain Danny Murphy believes his old club can keep ‘main man’ Wilson – if they convince manager Silva to stay as well.

Silva’s future at Craven Cottage remains uncertain, as his contract is set to expire at the end of this season. The Portuguese has yet to give his bosses any response to the offer of a three-and-a-half-year deal back in November.

It has not gone unnoticed that the ex-Everton boss has been slow to react to the prospect of signing a new contract and that has fuelled suggestions he will leave at the end of the campaign.

“The way he’s playing, he’s the main man,” Murphy said on Wilson. “He’s winning games for them time and time again. He’s a brilliant finisher and he’s playing the best football of his career.

“He seems happy where he is. With any footballer, you never really know their financial position or ambitions without knowing them personally.

“Is Harry Wilson going to go to a bigger club than Fulham and play every week? I don’t think so, and that’s not disrespectful.

“He just doesn’t quite have the speed and athleticism to be a regular starter at a top-six club now. There are big teams who would love him as a squad player and play him accordingly. But family matters too.

“Is his family happy? Are his kids settled at school? He’s the main man at Fulham, he’s enjoying his football, and there’s a lot to be said for waking up every morning knowing you’re going to play.

“I think Fulham will offer him something good enough for him to want to stay. No-one would blame him if a bigger club came in and he backed himself to give it a go, but my gut feeling is that Fulham will reward him.”

Before the Match of the Day pundit added: “There’s also an argument that he’s thriving under a manager he really believes in.

“If he thought the manager wasn’t staying, why would he commit? But if Marco Silva signs, I think it massively increases the chances of Harry Wilson staying too.”
