Celtic are close to agreeing a deal to sign Brentford centre-back Benjamin Arthur, with the two clubs sorting final details ahead of a move, according to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph.
It’s been a hectic end to the January transfer window for Celtic as they desperately try to bring in reinforcements ahead of the 7pm deadline. The Glasgow giants confirmed the signing of Junior Adamu before the closing of the window, but they are working on other deals alongside that for Martin O’Neill.
Celtic are currently six points behind league leaders Harts in the Scottish Premiership title race, so there’s no doubt they needed reinforcements in the winter market.

Celtic Close to Centre-Back Deal

According to Joseph of Sky Sports, Celtic are now close to agreeing a deal to sign Brentford’s 6 ft 4 centre-back Arthur, with the final details being resolved over a possible move.
It’s an interesting move for Celtic, bringing in the 20-year-old defender who is yet to make a Premier League appearance for Brentford. Arthur was given a 10-minute cameo in the FA Cup, while he’s also played 161 minutes in the Carabao Cup for the Bees.
The move for Arthur could allow Stephen Welsh to return to Motherwell, after O’Neill’s side cancelled his loan move earlier in the window due to a lack of options for the centre-back position.
