Newcastle United could be set to make a move for Spain international Jorge De Frutos, according to reports – with the Magpies lining up a deadline day deal that could tempt the winger to St. James’ Park.
The Magpies have had a relatively quiet winter window, with only a number of academy stars heading out on loan and nobody coming into the first-team despite their wavering Premier League form.
That could all be set to change in the coming hours, however, given the transfer window is shortly set to slam shut – with Rayo Vallecano’s star man De Frutos being touted for a move to the north east in a bid to qualify for the Champions League.
Report: Newcastle ‘Ready’ to Make £13million Move for Jorge De Frutos

The report by Spanish outlet Fichajes states that the Magpies have opened up a new avenue in the transfer market – with their sights being set on De Frutos.
Wingers are a ‘priority’ for Eddie Howe, and now the gaffer has put forward a concrete proposal that has attracted attention in Spain.
At €15million (£13million), it’s a figure that reflects the seriousness of Newcastle’s interests, and the 28-year-old could get a big move to the Premier League if terms can be agreed.
De Frutos is seen as an ‘ideal’ player for Newcastle’s system, with his ability to act as a game-changer being one of his best attributes, and that could be needed once Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Anthony Elanga become tired late on in matches.
Whilst Vallecano are not in a hurry to sell, they acknowledge that it’s an offer which is difficult to ignore. For Newcastle, it’s a measured investment for an arrival which won’t break the bank, and he would fit seamlessly into Newcastle’s squad.
World Cup Move Could Be on De Frutos’ Mind

De Frutos came through the youth ranks at Rayo Majadahonda before a switch to Real Madrid’s ‘B’ team at the age of 21.
From there, he’s had a run of a few years in La Liga, most lately for Vallecano, and his form saw him make his Spain debut in September 2025.

With his stock on the up, De Frutos – who is shortly set to turn 29 – may want to cash in on a huge move whilst his stock is this higher, especially with his thirties around the corner.
And, with the 2026 World Cup coming up this summer, De Frutos will be hoping to secure a move to find his way into the final Spain squad that jets off to North America in the summer.
