AC Milan now have concerns over a deal to sign Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta after his recent knee injury, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

AC Milan submitted an offer in the region of £30m for Mateta earlier in the window, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that the French forward had agreed to join the Italian club, informing Palace of his decision to head through the exit door. As we edge closer to the deadline, a deal is yet to be finalised, while Mateta was left out of Palace’s squad to face Nottingham Forest this weekend.

The Eagles completed a deal to sign Aston Villa forward Evann Guessand on loan for the remainder of the campaign, but it remains to be seen whether he was brought in as the direct replacement for Mateta. Palace clearly know that an exit for Mateta looks likely, and their supporters might be hoping for another body through the door alongside Guessand.

Mateta to AC Milan in Doubt

According to journalist O’Rourke, AC Milan now have concerns over a move for Mateta after his recent injury, with the French forward undergoing a medical with the Italian club. As things stand, a deal isn’t off, but there are concerns and AC Milan may want to structure things differently while they carry out further checks on his knee.

Speaking on Mateta’s future, Oliver Glasner confirmed after their game against Forest that the Eagles will be looking to bring in a number nine.

“But if JP leaves, a striker, a number nine comes in and then let’s see what’s happening but I would prefer not to talk the day before deadline day so much about transfers.”
