Manchester City have made a jaw-dropping, club-record bid to sign Barcelona star Pedri this month, according to Fichajes.

Pep Guardiola’s side have had a mixed season so far after qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League, while they are currently second in the Premier League, seven points behind league leaders Arsenal having played a game less.

City have already added Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi to their squad this month to aid their title challenge, but they have also made a move to bolster their midfield by raiding Guardiola’s boyhood club with a stunning £173m offer to sign the Spain international.

Man City Make £173m Bid for Pedri

Pedri, who has been described as the best midfielder in the world by Toni Kroos, has been a key member of the Barcelona squad for several years, and remains one of the most important players in Hansi Flick’s side.

Guardiola is a huge fan of the 23-year-old and convinced City to table a club-record offer to bring him to the Etihad Stadium, as he looks to build the best midfield in the world alongside the likes of Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders, with the expectation that captain Bernardo Silva will be leaving at the end of the season.

However, Barcelona immediately shut the door on any potential move for their star man, and have told City they will not consider any negotiations at this time.

Hansi Flick has vehemently opposed any exit for the Spain star, who signed from Las Palmas in 2020, and despite the club’s financial troubles, Barcelona have no intention of selling Pedri to raise funds, as they view him as key to any sporting success on the pitch in the coming years.

It’s also unclear how Pedri feels about moving to England at this stage of his career, but he is very happy at the Camp Nou and is not expected to agitate for a move.

Pedri Would Be The Best in England

There are very few players who could come into the Premier League and immediately lay a claim to being the best player in the division, but Pedri is certainly one of them.

In the Man City setup, Guardiola would guarantee that he would flourish and play at his best, and a player of that level coming into the side would easily make them even stronger contenders to win the title and Champions League.
