The Jeremy Jacquet saga has dragged on for most of the January transfer window, and it’s still no closer to being resolved.

One of the main issues with Chelsea‘s pursuit of Jeremy Jacquet has been the time of year, as Rennes has shown an unwillingness to really commit, given its January.

Rennes are demanding more from Chelsea than they received for Jeremy Doku, which puts a potential deal in the region of £57 million or more.

It’s not just Chelsea in the race, as Liverpool are also looking to secure a deal before the deadline, while Bayern Munich have been watching on the sidelines.

With time running out, it seems as if the Blues are giving it one final go.

Chelsea offer £43 million and a striker for Jeremy Jacquet

According to Sport in France, Chelsea have offered a striker to Rennes and £43 million for Jacquet.

However, that doesn’t seem to have been enough, as they state this.

‘Chelsea have multiplied their offensives – up to €50 million (£43m) mentioned, with a striker swap at stake – but Habib Beye slams the door: “Not for sale this winter!” The Rennes president is betting on stability for European dreams, postponing any sale until the spring at a stratospheric price (€60 million+).’

It remains to be seen as to who the striker may have been. The likely answer would be either Marc Guiu, David Datro Fofana or Tyrique George.

Chelsea should just pay up if they really want him

Chelsea believe Jeremy Jacquet can be ‘one of the best in the world’ one day, so what is stopping them from paying up?

Of course, there’s the fact of not wanting to overpay, but if their beliefs are that strong in him, then why risk another club like Liverpool getting in ahead of them?

After all, Jacquet has already given Chelsea the nod as his preference.

We don’t know the financials behind the scenes at Chelsea, but it does seem as if there’s a lack of willingness to spend. Especially after abandoning central midfielder plans.
