Dorset Council has announced that it will be cancelling its school transport on January 30, following reports from the Met Office that heavy rainfall is expected in the area.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: “Bearing in mind the number of road closures we already have in place and the ways in which river catchment areas are reacting without warning it has been decided that the county-wide Dorset Council commissioned school transport will be cancelled for 30 January. This includes journeys both to and from school.

“This decision has not been made lightly, and we understand frustrations from parents, carers and school leaders. But we have to consider whether the transport can safely take children to and from school.”

The authority added that children using public transport may not be affected, but they will need to check bus details for more information.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council added: “School leaders will make the decision on whether their school will remain open or close.”
