Nottingham Forest have renewed their interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Jose Sa, with John Victor unlikely to return from his knee injury this season.
Forest have previously held an interest in former Olympiacos goalkeeper Sa in the summer of 2023, at a time when they were waiting to see if Dean Henderson would return to the club permanently, following his successful loan spell.
Talks between the clubs have opened over a move for the 33-year-old, as Forest look to provide competition and cover for Matz Sels, who has kept back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League, against Arsenal and Brentford.
Sa has made 148 Premier League appearances since joining Wolves from Olympiacos in 2021, spending most of his four-and-a-half-year stint as the club’s No.1.
The Portuguese goalkeeper has re-established himself in Rob Edwards’ side recently after a spell as understudy to Sam Johnstone, meaning the club would be reluctant to sell him mid-season.
However, there is an acknowledgement that he is unlikely to stay next year, when Wolves appear almost certain to be in the Championship, so they would consider selling if they received an offer that might not be on the table in the summer.
Any move would also depend on Edwards being satisfied with Sa’s replacement, be it Johnstone or a new signing.
John Victor has had surgery on his knee to repair a problem he sustained against Aston Villa last month and it is unlikely that he will return this season.
Forest do have Angus Gunn as back-up but the club are keen to add another goalkeeper, as they bid to pull away from the Premier League relegation zone and progress in the Europa League.
Sean Dyche’s side face Ferencvaros at the City Ground on Thursday before playing Crystal Palace in the Premier League three days later.
