I think his European exploits alone with Real Madrid should really place him as the best British footballer ever. I mean the pedigree of winning 5 champions leagues with Madrid along with the famous acronym BBC (Bale/Benzema/CR7) meant that he was literally at the pinnacle of world football and for a good decade to boot as well.
Just because he plays for Wales which means less international quality and coverage, doesn't mean he's a worse player than any British player. In my personal opinion, he's extremely dangerous and a lot of CR7s exploits was down to Bale's industry and work rate. Some days, Bale completely outshines CR7 and that puts him among the top echelon of footballers ever.
