In this post I shall be making up a team using the players we have already signed, whether I think there are better options or not, and throwing in some of my own signings along the way.

FORMATION: 4-3-3

GK: Fraser Forster 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Best goalkeeper in our history. Pulled of multiple truly WORLD CLASS saves in a Celtic jersey. We need him back.

News broke on Thursday that he’s refused a new contract at Southampton and with 11 months to go on his current deal, we could snap him up for a low fee.

Cost? £2M

LB: Fredrik Björkan 🇳🇴

Good going forward, good at the back. MONSTROUS upgrade on Greg Taylor (not hard) and only 5 months left on his contract. No-brainer.

Cost? £500K

CB: Carl Starfelt 🇸🇪

Signed from Rubin Kazan but yet to arrive in Glasgow. Media calling him a huge loss to Kazan, sounds promising.

CB: Simon Deli 🇨🇮

Absolute rock. 6’4 and the strongest player I’ve ever seen on a football pitch. Outstanding every time I’ve seen him (including against Real Madrid in the UCL) and with 11 months on his contract a cut-price deal can be had.

RB: Falaye Sacko 🇲🇱

One of the best right-backs in the Portuguese league. Electric pace, tall, physically imposing and an excellent cross. Said to be available for £3M. BRILLIANT value for money.

DM: Patrick Berg 🇳🇴

You all know the script by now. Arguably the best value transfer in Europe. Incredibly two-footed, INCREDIBLE range of passing, excellent set-piece delivery and defensively adept. All for around £1-1.5M? GET. HIM. IN.

CM: Callum McGregor 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Our new captain. Reliable, good going forward and defensively. Great player.

Goals, assists, speed and just an all round threat going forward. 15 goals in 29 games last season, which is brilliant from a winger.

Rumoured to be available for around £3.5M and has started following and liking Celtic posts on social media. He clearly wants a move. Let’s get him!

ST: Kyogo Furuhashi 🇯🇵

I’m so excited by this signing I can’t even express it. 15 goals and 2 assists in 21 games so far this season in the J-League, and to say he is absolutely ADORED in Japan is the understatement of the century.

Scored an almost equal amount of goals with his right foot as he has with his left, Furuhashi is incredibly two-footed, meaning he can play LW, ST or as an attacking-midfielder.

Cost? £4.5M

RW: Liel Abada 🇮🇱

Wow, wow, wow, wow. Looks like a PHENOMENAL young player. Pace, trickery, directness and GOALS. Going to be a MAJOR player for Celtic going forward.

Cost: £3.5M

Kim Min-jae 🇰🇷 (CB)

Nicknamed ‘Monster’, you instantly get the an impression for how good this guy is. He has EVERY attribute to be a top-tier centre-back. 6’3, really quick, strong, great in the air and a monster in the tackle.

Beijing Guoan paid £4.75M for him in 2019 and usually he’d be way out of our budget but he only has 5 MONTHS on his contract! Juventus, Porto and Galatasaray all heavily linked. We should be all over this man as he is the calibre of player to take Celtic to the next level.

Ko Itakura 🇯🇵 (CB)

The most likely to happen out of Deli and Min-jae, Itakura has already been linked with a move to Celtic this window. The Japanese ball-playing centre-back is a Manchester City player but has spent the last two seasons on loan at FC Groningen, where he has been a key man and one of the standout defenders in the Eredivise.

Itakura is currently representing Japan at the Olympics in Tokyo, but at 24 years of age, you would imagine it’s time for him to leave City and find a new permanent club as he clearly doesn’t have a future in their first team. Sign him up Celtic!

Aaron Boupendza 🇬🇦 (LW/ST)

My personal choice to replace Eddy should he leave. The Gabonese international signed for Hatayspor on a free transfer from Bordeaux in 2020 upon their promotion to the Süper Lig. Despite being a newly promoted side, they finished 6th with Boupendza being instrumental in that, scoring 22 goals in 36 games. His incredible season put him in the Turkish Süper Lig Team of the Season.

Valued at £6.5M, the Gabonese international only has 11 months left on his contract meaning a deal could definitely be done. In fact, Celtic have already been linked with him at the start of the window! I would have put him in the starting XI over Lovrić but due to the Croat rumoured to be almost half the price, and this is a realistic XI, I figured Lovrić should probably get in first.
