  1. Not particularly seeing the appeal, doesn’t feel that we are short of central midfielders.

  2. Interesting comment about other clubs. Spurs tried to sign him twice, and he is a London boy

  3. This is a really good signing. We’ve got such a good midfield when everyone is fit. Can’t believe we have 3 CMs out but they are prone to spells out.

  4. Absolutely chuffed if this lands. Nothing could replace McGinn – he would come close over the long term, very similar profile.

Loan to buy makes sense as we’re looking fairly nailed on for CL next year and the extra revenue that brings.

Would it be greedy to hope for a RW?

  5. If we can get Crystal Palace Gallagher, then great. But also, another midfielder? Wonder what the thought process is if this is true

I didn’t get at it first but then I remembered we still have Ross Barkley, who is often injured, and who we likely won’t extend. So I can see that happening. Originally felt Bogarde/Hemings would replace Barkley but I can see the value in bringing experience in.

  7. Wouldn’t hate it. I’m not sure who he displaces in our starting XI but three years younger than Tielemans, six years younger than McGinn and seven years younger than Barkley, it’s not a bad move to improve our depth and age profile, and he is a very talented player.

Hopefully it’s a sensible fee and option/obligation terms but I trust the lads to know what they’re doing on that one. Plus Emery has clearly been desperate to get the guy in, so at least there’s bound to be a clear vision for him. If it happens then it could end up being a really smart move.

Not sure about this one at all. Looked decent when he first moved there but I think there are better options elsewhere.

That said, Emery is apparently a big fan and I have faith in him.

the signing is good yet isn’t this guy like at 200k per week? we’re removing malen who’s at 140k to make room but he’ll have to surely take a pay cut if we wanna sign him

  10. Like it from a football perspective as I think he’s a good player and will fit in well, but not sure about it from a business standpoint. Can we really afford his wages or would that money be better spent elsewhere?

  11. Seems cliche but Emery has clearly wanted him for a while now over several windows. And that’s good enough for me.

As a fellow Gallagher, this would be great! Can buy a jersey with my own name on the back!

  13. Excellent signing and I hope they get this over the line soon. I think he’ll needed for us down the stretch.

  14. I assume Barkley leaves in which case this is an upgrade and offers a lot more energy.

Also points to us playing a more pressing style

  15. For some reason I thought he was way older. Not entirely sure why we are prioritising midfield as that seems to be the squads strongest area, but who knows, those working at the club obviously have a better understanding of things.

I was surprised and gutted we didn’t get him before he went to Atletico, as we were heavily linked with him then.

But now, I just don’t know where he fits in, as things stand.

I do like him a lot though, and if Emery wants him then so do I.

  17. Didnt he turn us down once. Clubs may well agree a deal, but doesn’t mean much if the player is not convinced.

  18. He’s great cover right now but will become a first 11 starter under Unai. Absolute machine of a player.

  19. Chelsea fan here in peace.

Our fans loved Gallagher a lot because he is an absolutely relentless workhorse and pressing/running machine. He’s also quite good at box crashing.

Unfortunately, he’s not that good technically, often misweighing passes and his first touch can let him down. Similarly his eagerness to press means he can end up getting pulled too far from his position in the structure of the team and he hasn’t got a great sense of anticipating danger defensively to weigh it against.

He was at his best under us when he was a DM with licence to win the ball back at will, and then told to box-crash in sustained periods of possession. But we sold him because we didn’t think he’d work in a possession-focused system and he’s similarly struggled to hold a first-team place down at Athletico.

I, and many other fans, still have a big soft spot for him though, so if you do sign him I hope he serves you very well.
