Manchester United forward Geyse is set to join Mexican side Club America on a permanent deal.

United are also working on closing a deal for Sweden striker Ellen Wangerheim from Hammarby.

Geyse, 27, spent the 2025 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season on loan with Gotham FC and was part of the championship-winning squad. Among her 17 matches played, she registered two goals and two assists.

Gotham had an option to make the move permanent but the Brazil international’s loan ended in December and United were working with all parties to review options.

Geyse joined United from Barcelona in August 2023 for a then club-record fee and was on significant wages.

She experienced highs and lows at the club; in her first season, she was part of the historical 2024 FA Cup-winning side and made 21 appearances under Marc Skinner as the team finished fifth in the Women’s Super League (WSL).

In her second campaign, she played nine games for United, starting six. Last January, she went on compassionate leave in Brazil following the death of her brother in a car accident. She returned to the side as a substitute on March 2 in a 2-0 WSL win over Leicester City.

After the Leicester match, Geyse posted a statement on Instagram describing an environment in which “inner peace is difficult to find.”

“Staying in a place where we don’t feel happy is an agonising and lonely feeling. Every day seems heavier, and the simple fact of being there becomes a burden,” the forward wrote. “The environment, which should be welcoming, becomes a field of discomfort, where inner peace is difficult to find. When we are not in tune with what surrounds us, the world around us loses its colour and energy.”

After the post, Skinner said United were working to find a solution and ensure that “Geyse is absolutely looked after and has all the care that she needs.” He also stressed that the club had been providing Geyse with well-being support.

Wangerheim, meanwhile, has made 138 appearances for Hammarby, scoring 65 goals and played a significant role in the club’s historic double two seasons ago. The 21-year-old has accrued interest from several Women’s Super League (WSL) clubs over the past year.

Hammarby and United are still working on closing the deal. Wangerheim has yet to sign anything with United and personal terms are yet to be agreed.

Wangerheim would join former Hammarby players Julia Zigiotti Olme, Fridolina Rolfo, Anna Sandberg and Hanna Lundkvist at United, if a deal is concluded.

Wangerheim has been deployed predominantly as a No 9 at Hammarby and would be the third striker in Skinner’s ranks, along with Lea Schuller, who signed this window on a free from Bayern Munich, and Elisabeth Terland. The Athletic reported on Thursday that striker Rachel Williams, 37, is set to leave the club for Leicester City this window.
