Callum Wilson’s time at West Ham United appears to be coming to a close.

Following the arrivals of both Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe at West Ham, veteran forward Wilson looks as if he will be leaving after only a few months at the club.

Though he may not have gone just yet, Wilson has been tipped to leave West Ham – with Sevilla reportedly interested in a move for the 33-year-old.

Clearly, Wilson does not provide a long-term solution to anyone’s needs. Still, eight starts have yielded four goals this season and that Premier League experience could be crucial for Nuno Espirito Santo.

While not to suggest West Ham’s fate this season relies purely on keeping Wilson, there is certainly at least some logic in ensuring he stays.

A prolific striker at his very best, he’s a highly-rated figure in the game. In fact, he’s been backed to become the best striker in Scotland if he were to make a move to Celtic.

Callum Wilson backed for Celtic to move

Celtic are reportedly in the hunt for a new striker during the January transfer window as the newly-reinstalled Martin O’Neill looks to make up for lost ground in the title race.

It remains to be seen if they will make a move for Wilson but former Celtic star Alan Stubbs believes he’d be a roaring success north of the border.

In fact, he believes he’d go from a reasonably struggling Premier League forward to Scotland’s best striker.

Speaking to The Daily Record, Stubbs said: “I think he’s quality, there’s no doubt he’s quality. If Celtic were to get Wilson, and he is playing to the levels that he can be, he’s the best striker in Scotland.

“There’s no doubt about that. I know he’s been on a pay-per-play contract at West Ham, and that’s gone. To be honest, a six-month contract at Celtic at the end of the season, for me, is not a gamble.

“He’s somebody who knows he can score goals. He probably fits the profile of a player that Martin seems to get the best out of as well. Martin will have in his head a profile of certain positions, what he’s expecting from it.”

Callum Wilson could replace Michail Antonio as a Leicester signing

Wilson, of course, is great friends with West Ham icon Michail Antonio.

The two previously held a podcast together until reasonably recently.

Antonio is yet to find a new club after leaving the London Stadium and was recently training with Leicester.

However, following an injury setback in training, Leicester have decided against signing Antonio

Still, the Foxes are still in pursuit of more goals, it would seem.

According to noted transfer expert Ben Jacobs on talkSPORT, Wilson is a player of interest to those at the King Power Stadium.

On Thursday, Jacobs said: “My understanding is that West Ham and Callum Wilson have basically got a verbal agreement in place to terminate his contract, only small details remain.

“So, Wilson is set to become a free agent and then he’s not in a rush because free agents can move outside of the winter window. From Wilson’s perspective, he knows from Nuno Espirito Santo that he’s down the pecking order.

“Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos have both arrived. And, I think as importantly, Wilson’s contract is believed to be a pay-as-you-play type deal. So, so even if he does well and is valuable, the more minutes he plays, it becomes quite costly as far as West Ham United are concerned.

“So all parties feel that the more sensible option is just to part ways now. I don’t have any information as far as one SPL – the Scottish Premier League – is concerned, but another SPL in the Saudi Pro League are looking at Callum Wilson.

“Al-Shabab and possibly Al-Ettifaq. But keep an eye on the Championship as well, because you may remember that Michail Antonio, ex-West Ham, was training with Leicester.

“It appears he’s picked up a muscle injury and, as of now, they haven’t signed Michail Antonio. I’m told Callum Wilson is also on Leicester’s radar.”
