Raheem Sterling is one of Chelsea’s most expensive mistakes since changing owners. With Maresca taking the manager job, Sterling hasn’t played a single minute for Chelsea.

I completely agree with Maresca. Footballers, especially in the big leagues, are a privileged bunch. And sometimes are completlly detached from the lives of regular people, who come to the stadions and pay the subscriptions to watch football and from where the money in the football world come. Regular people pay the salaries of the football players, so they should at least be aware of this. They do not have hard lives, despite the fact they like to complain a lot
Cheeky scammer, heh
I said to a friend of mine when Chelsea bought Sterling "hes effectively done, he started playing at 17, thats a lot of wear and tear, maybe he'll have one last year in him, but Pep wouldn't have sold him if he thought there was a lot left", itll be a struggle to get rid of him because of his insane wages, well unless he took a massive pay cut, he'll probably just go on loan after loan until his contract expires

Yes his life isnt "hard" compared to most ppl but still, not like its all rainbows and roses.
"He gets paid this much to do nothing". Yep, not a bad proposition but wanting to do what u love but not being able to isnt "easy".
"He could just move elsewhere to get playing time". Sure, but leaving ur family, even if just for a short time, isnt "easy".
R many athletes detached from the average life? Yes, because they dont live an average life. Do many of them complain too much? Absolutely. But again, that dsnt mean someone in his position should just be happy even though some very crappy circumstances r currently in play.
If he wants to play he has to admit to himself that father time always wins , take a pay cut and play in the 1st division.
He wasn’t loaned to arsenal in jan. It was a full season.
Sterling move to arsenal in august, and not a january transfer, although another great video
It doesn't sound like Sterling is complaining about his situation tbf, he seems fine with it
I'd love to train football everynight as my job. Even for an average wage
Missed opportunity to say the ghost of Chelsea's past 😂😂
I was never in favour of the move. There were so many, easy to predict issues (declining output, reliance on pace for most of his career, dependence on a tactical system under Pep that emphasised prolific chance creation) that no one is surprised really that it worked out like this. He stated in one of his first interviews that he came to Chelsea to be the 'main man', but he has never been rounded enough as a player to bear that responsibility. You can say that the team was inconsistent, and poorly optimised, and you would be correct, but Palmer had a breath taking season in the same team and system. It was doable. Cole Palmer is a 'main man', he's genuinely world class. Sterling had elite pace and movement, and that worked when he was being supplied by KDB, but that's because KDB is the main guy, not Sterling. Across his two seasons in the first team, it became clear that what 'main man' meant to him was that he could pull rank on free kicks, take most half chances for himself and press at leisure, and still he delivered mediocre numbers. The idea around Maresca judging Sterling too quickly or harshly ignores the fact that when we played Leicester in the cup under Poch, Sterling dropped a masterclass in being both ineffective and selfish. Maresca was in the opposite dugout. He saw first hand what Raheem brought to the table. I was, personally, delighted when he stated publicly that Sterling wouldn't play for us again. Even with all of that being the case, I have no problem with the choices he's making. He's accruing generational wealth while being close enough to home to be with his wife and help raise his children. That's the right thing to do. We agreed to pay him that money, and he should get every penny. What I do not understand is this insistence in trying to create this philosophical perspective on the situation. He was told early and in no uncertain terms that he was surplus to requirements and he had several offers on the table from a host of teams that wanted him. Sterling's requirements for leaving the club seemed to boil down to the fact that he refused to earn less than he would at Chelsea, he wouldn't leave London and he wouldn't leave for a club that wasn't elite. That only left Arsenal. And even they came in for him. He was given ANOTHER chance at a big club and was still found wanting. I have never given a moments thought for Sterling's mental health simply because at every step of the way he has chosen what's best for himself and his family, willingly, from a host of superb options. I will not second guess his choices or give more consideration to his frame of mind than he will. I find it weird people are trying to do so. Sterling himself is not claiming ill treatment. Ostensibly he's at peace with his decision. If you're going to ask what Chelsea's obligations are to Sterling as a person and a professional, should you not also ask Sterling what his obligations are to football and to his fans? He was one of the best players in the league for years, and is likely a hero for tens of thousands of people that grew up watching him. Is it okay for him to walk away from the last productive years of his professional career simply for more money? Does he really need it at this point? So few professionals ever get to play at the level he did for the clubs that he has. Does he not owe it to the universe, or to other aspiring professional footballers, to give that all that he can, for as long as he can? I believe he would still comfortably be a 10-15 g/a player per season for a different club. He's not useless, just not as good as he once was. But Sterling refuses to move. Why is it easier to understand Sterling's perspective than Chelsea's? Ghosts, typically, are spirits that are trapped in this world. They're not permitted to find peace. Sterling is exactly where he has chosen to be. He's not a ghost, he's living his best life.
He's earning generation wealth while taking care of his family and community, why would he stir that up. He could invest 10k into each of those youngster's college funds with what he makes in a week, and guarantee their future success and opportunity.
As a Liverpool fan, I hate him, but as a man, I rate him.
Pirlo and Beckham Sterling is not.
I remember Beckham running 13 km per game as a winger. 13 km per game. Up and down. 13 km/game. Every game.
Beckham owned his renown. Earned his place in the Galaticos. He was a fantastic player all his career.
Sterling owns crap.
If he has mental issues, he can terminate his contract anytime…
Clearly it was Pep's doing, in the 22/23 season, Sterling somehow went back to default factory settings.
Ngl. As a danish Liverpool fan, it warms my heart that we have been cut short on having to look at him play and I hope he rots there until he retires. Now if only we could do something about the dosh he 'earns' for a living.
Haha Sterling isn't a victim! I do not feel bad for Sterling at all. He has had plenty of opportunity to get out of the situation if he wanted. He clearly doesn't mind collecting millions to train on his own. If there was a mental issue from training in isolation then he's also got millions to pay for therapy.
10:52 I’m sorry but Sterling wants to have his cake and eat it too, he’s not gonna be part of the Chelsea squad that’s a given now whether right or wrongly it doesn’t matter him turning down loan offers equally his business, if he wants to I don’t imagine Chelsea would be opposed to terminating the contract on mutual grounds but something tells me he’d rather not as any other offer might not match what Chelsea is paying him to do nothing.
Edit I didn’t see the following part glad you also included that part
"elevate himself above" mate i think you are really underselling how dogshit sterling was. Now none of us expected him to be like the old sterling. physical wear and tear is a thing. but what we did expect is someone that can come off hte bench and just do a job. boy how wrong we all were. He could not make a simple pass to save his life. He could not keep the ball, basically it was like watching a toddler try and play.
I can be Sterling all day…geez😂😂👊🏼
3:33 Good, now calculate how each of his open misses are worth ? 😂
If he's on 17M year start learning badges
Create links with local teams probably coach sooner
Study part time
Hire professionals if feeling isolated
Spent time with family
Work on your fitness
Get the surgery you may need before end of your career and still being paid
I want him to go on loan to Spurs and United so he would have played for all big 6 clubs.
Man getting that money in 2025 I would just chill too, take care of family, and not make noise to anyone.
People are always ready to make the player a villain when issues like this arise. The club is equally as responsible for this situation for giving him such a huge deal.
When you sign a big contract with any player, you assume the risk that it may not workout.
As a City fan, I enjoyed him up until about January 2020. His August 2017-May 2019 were absolutely elite, one of the best players in Europe and a huge reason we got 100 points in 17/18, repeated in 18/19 with 98 points (+fa cup, caraboa cup).
The famous Lyon miss in the 2019-20 season seems to have broken him. In the next season, we played false 9, and Sterling was so bad when he came in. Same again in 2021 and 2022, barely played and had negative impact on the pitch. To me, the Lyon miss is what broke him.
Sterling's one of the best British players of his generation and he deserves to be remembered that way. He's been pilloried by the tabloids over here since he was a teenager, which has only served to undermine how good of a player he is.
If he wanted to play, he could change clubs. I have no sympathy.
I don't think he was ever a clinical finisher. The numbers were high at hus peak but he did miss quite a few simple chances.
Once his speed declined he wasn't able to adapt th his new situation.
As a Jamaican, i kept an eye on Sterling when Liverpool signed him from QPR. He developed into a good player and had a great career considering how few people actually make it. But, i just feel like football moved on in terms of quality, strategy, and player requirements, but Raheem just couldn't adapt and get to grips with it. He lost his lightning pace and seemed to struggle to beat players. His decision-making and passing ability seemed to decline massively, but i honestly think that was more due to a massive loss of self-confidence and belief. I dont blame him for sitting out his contract. Where else would he get the same salalry?
that's my dream job, getting a massive bag with little to no effort
His main primary strength has always been how rapid he was. That's great when you're young, but the speedsters are always the ones who burn out the hardest and have the shortest careers, unless they successfully adapt their skillset.
At least the money is paid so😂
I really Wish for Raheem to reemerge, maybe as a coach? I mean He still loves football from as much as I see
Wherever he goes, I'll always support Razza 🇯🇲
I feel like these conversations are weird because at the end of the day there’s a contract between the club and the player. And so to a certain extent, when either party later makes claims about how the other one should’ve acted it just feels off. If it’s not in the contract you signed, that’s kind of still your fault, they have no requirement other than what was agreed upon. And if you really cared ahead of time (for example in this case requiring first team training) that should’ve been a sticking point from the player side before he ever signed a contract. This can obviously cut the other way when clubs get upset a player like Sterling is simply choosing to receive the pay from his remaining contract
300,000 a week and you don’t have to chase a ball at high speeds for 90 minutes. Sounds nice
Bro you need to do a video about Roma and Gasperini
just like what Carlo Ancelotti said about Hazard : "he isnt in a place that deserve to be pitied"
Hopefully, hes working on his coaching badges…
I would take a year from Sterlings contract ANY DAY. On a heart beat. You paid 16 million for going to the gym and keeping yourself healthy and match ready even if you dont have to pay 1 minute
another useless ex footballer that will become a useless pundit/commentator
what a life
I wouldn't mind training kids and earning $325K a week 🤣
