It was a terrible tactical selection. It isolated Kerkez and collapsed all the space inside having Wirtz roaming into the midfield from the wing. If he wants midfield overload he has the most obvious tactical solution with Szoboszlai in the hybrid rb role. Who again showed he is excellent in that role.
The moment Wirtz went to 10, Szoboszlai to rb and Cody to wing our shape improved and we started seeing Wirtz find space between the lines. But we wasted a whole half then made subs that made us worse again. Slot is responsible for this tactical disaster.

Management seeming a little off lately. How do you not see what’s happening to your team? Chiesa is god tier this season. Salah is clearly out of form. Defense is atrocious. Can’t rely on luck every single match. Fix the team, make these players earn their spot.

Struggled for many matches already and not playing certain very creative players to their strength like wirtz and not reprimanding szobo for not passing to wirtz at all. Chiesa should have started over non existent gakpo for many games as hes proven to save your axx many times. Get this mid tier limited manager out before its too late. So many quality players in the whole squad and he actually manage to set all of them up for failure.

Whatever the plan was it was ineffective. After a decent rest it’s hard not to have expected a lot more from this team. Perhaps we need to go back to basics using Gakpo, Ekitike or Chiesa plus Salah, strong midfield of Macca, Dom and Ryan, and work on getting the back four performing consistently. Trying to shoehorn Wirtz in to every 11 when he isn’t quite ready yet is messing with the balance.
