I’m baffled why people are defending Southgate’s position with arguments about foreign managers. Just because no foreign manager has ever won a World Cup, doesn’t mean the reason is because they were foreign. There are a multitude of reasons for this stat so you can’t look at it isolated from the other variables. For instance, most top teams are managed by their own whereas smaller footballing nations have had a larger proportion of foreign managers. Also, this argument against all club managers because it’s a different challenge. Tuchel would be ideal. Hell, even a manager like Pep, who does require a lot of time to instil his ideas would be fantastic. He’d find a way to adapt to the challenge of international football because he is a great tactical mind. But all of these arguments are a smoke screen for the one stat that in pertinent. Southgate has had three attempts and failed every time. He’s failed to beat any of the big nations in tournament football. He will not win at the euros. When you know this then the only option is to try something new. I’d rather roll the dice with Tuchel than get the inevitable with Southgate.

Otherwise, he perceives it as an opening to bore you into submission until you meet your B.S threshold, before you then place your full pint down on the bar & make a tactical retreat whilst he’s using the toilet to another pub… only to find out so has everyone else!!! 👍🏼
Natalie’s argument makes no sense. Ok so club manager is different to international; but Southgate hasn’t done anything at either level. So what? We keep keep him ahead of Tuchel, because what, he lost in key games? Nonsensical.

You really don't 'need' an elite manager to win the World Cup/Euro's, look at Argentina. Get Holloway in, at least he's got quite a bit of actual experience of managing and tactical nouse over a loooong period, you may even win a few more games. Unless you just like singing songs about winning the trophies, without actually doing it.

Natalie Sawyer talking absolute nonsense, an International Manager does not have to coach the players, they are already being coached well at club level. Their sole job is to keep harmony in the camp, find a playing style that suits and make good in game management decisions. In some ways it's simpler than club management as you know what you're working with and there are no transfer windows to bring in players. They simply have a pool of players to pick from. Of course Tuchel could have done as good a job as GS, no doubt about that.

Results have not improved in English football in the last ~30yrs. England beat average to poor sides and lose to good sides, there is no upside surprise with England – especially in KO games. Until England produce mentally strong players with composure under pressure, England will continue to lose against good teams.
