Doesn't make sense if Southgate no matter what has certain players that he'll bring into squad regardless if they're on form or even played then why not just not picking them players (as they're going anyway and instead have a look at players that's on form and not had chance yet and see how they get on? Don't make sense at all 🤷♂️
England actually lack an attacking midfielder with discipline. Foden, Grealish etc can't be trusted in centre midfield and so, you end up with a super negative middle 3. Maddison is someone you can throw into that midfield 3 who is attacking, but can do enough defensively so not to expose the team too much. It's mad he isn't in the squad.

Southgate does get some things right and his record in tournaments is hard to argue with, but he's such a naturally cautious guy. Feels like he's a staff member in the manager's job

I'm sorry but England has a poor group of players at the moment and will do really bad at the world cup. Henderson? Maguire? Shaw? Bowen? Coady? Dyer? Trippier? These players will never win you the world cup it's actually sad to see that England still has old school type of players and hasn't moved on with more technical players.

It is a mystery to me too and I'm not even an England fan. At this stage Maddison might as well switch allegiance to Ireland because he just can't do anything to earn a cap under this manager. Yet he is a cool-headed player who would give England exactly what they need during those matches like the Euro final where they are having to withstand heavy pressure and can't keep the ball. Also a lot more direct than Grealish when it comes to picking a pass or shooting from distance.

Completely agree. He gets goals and is standout at Leicester even when others like Tielemans are faltering. He can take free kicks too and having just watched Reece James (really!?!) sky one from just outside the box that's obviously a skill England need.

12 Defenders in a squad, WTF guys, doesn't that tell you about Southgate's failings. No forward-thinking players and Saka, OMG, played the poor guy so far out of position that he looked like a Sunday league player. For the sake of the future of English Football, get rid of the defensive attitude, the overloading of defenders and last but not least get rid of Southgate. Actually, I'm a Scot so really, I'm loving watching the turmoil that is England but as a football fan, we need the best England team in tournaments. Southgate OUT
