When we talk about Watkins it really hasn't got nothing to do with his misses, we dont here how many big chances Haarland or Isak has missed do we. Its all about his goal tally and assists, we are in no position to take a gamble on that. We were already 1 of the lowest scoring teams in the prem, you DONT get rid of your top goal scorer…FACT

agreed, Watkins needs to stay because we are not getting anyone better. If another striker comes in and challenges for Watkins place i’m all for it but as it stands anything other than watkins at present is going backwards.

Luke, i totally share your sentiments and i 100% agree with "Everything" you said. It would be total suicide right now for Villa to sell Watkins without a suitable replacement.
This is why this window worries me, we've hardly bought anyone in and we've barely been linked to any decent players. 95% of what I've been seeing is outgoings or our players being linked away.
If we sell Watkins, to me it will feel like the beginning of the end. Emery will not want to stay at Villa much longer with all these restraints, and neither will our top players. Rogers, Kamara, Tielemans, Onana will all want to leave imo.

It's like this window is on a monthly rinse-and-repeat cycle. Martinez, Rogers and Watkins were all off back in June, then all went quiet and now here we are again.

Unai always preaches consistency so I'd feel very dumbfounded if he goes now because Watkins' goal tally is what we can count on most every season. I'd love Openda, but not at his expense. The only other part of this squad that has continuity I have 0 doubt is Youri and Bouba (Rogers too but he could benefit w/ a bit more rest).

Would you take Mihalio Ivanovic from Millwall? 20 yr old Serb (Milosevic regen) and could be a Morgan Rogers style signing from the championship – looks very good, kinda like Mitrovic/Berbatov! He’s a promising footballer with high potential
Hamza Igamane (Rangers) is also an interesting option, small and nippy striker- strong upper body strength and would be good in a rotation/back up with Watkins.
Openda is decent tbf but as back up striker

I don't see us signing anyone in the summer Luke with the possible exception of Canvot.
I've come to think that the club feel like We have a squad that could be in and around CL spots come January or be too far from it no matter what.
I think they plan on assessing if We are near it come January and then assessing what We think is needed to achieve it. As they did with the 3 loans the previous January.
Not that I'm all for that but tbf We could strengthen exactly where needed now and then find ourselves with an injury or 2 that ruin a whole season anyway.
While I agree we shouldn’t lose Watkins, everyone has their price. If United or anyone else come in with a 60-65m bid then it’ll likely be accepted because objectively and as unbiased as possible, he’s not worth that much due to age and contract length,even though that’s what we set his price at. Also you kindve contradicted yourself, you said that both Ollie and Openda offer different things and then said they offer similar things with the exception of non penalty goals per 90. Otherwise great stuff Luke.

I don’t see why we need to move players that are performing wonderfully well. If you move someone on you have a replacement that will guarantee a big improvement on the one you’re selling otherwise it’s a nonsense. When you have someone that’s that good it’s almost impossible to get an improvement without spending much much more money than the amount your getting for the one your looking to move on. With people like Olly with his stats it’s incredibly hard to do that. Same goes with Emi ….where do you go for these players? Anyone but a solid proven player with better stats will be out of our reach due to PSR etc. I understand the age issues but to let him go for 40-50 mill is a nonsense. Keep with who we know and who’s already bedded in with our club!
What about Watkins stats in the prem before Emery?
I think we are missing the fact that Emery is a great a getting strikers to actually score goals.

Personally, I still trust Emery enough and let’s be honest, if Watkins took 20% of the open goals he has, we’d have been in the top 4.
We miss dugles goals and swap deal with man United are keeper and lm and the French keeper sell digne and Bailey and barkley and have two strikers
Hi Luke, unfortunately, football is equally an accounting as well as on the pitch venture now. As such, I believe AVFC MUST consider realising Watkins value now, rather than holding onto a depreciating asset. Like it or not, if we can get £50 – 60 m for Watkins, which enables us to get Garnacho and Openda, then I think that is what we have to do. Like it or not, it is the way football is now. Personally, I would rather sell Ramsey and get Openda, and keep Watkins for at least another season. Also, as a club, under SCR, we CANNOT, afford to get someone better than Watkins. The owners understand this, and this is why we have to hope Emery and Monchi can take current lower level players with high potential, and into Rodgers levels of success. Rodgers WONT be sold due to age and cost, but Watkins is different, the same as Emi, due to age and being a depreciating asset on massive wages. As fans we need to accept WE CANNOT purchase better players due to the SCR financial restriction. I have accepted this, I dont like it, but its the game now.

Luke we simply have to get through this transfer window without anyone other than Dendonker, Moreno, possibly Dobbin and Bailey leaving but thats about it and if we can bring in a CB and an Attacker whether thats left, right or a back up striker then that should be the aim nothing more nothing less. The season before last Watkins scored alot of goals in the last ten minutes of games but because of his minutes been managed last year he wasn't on the pitch to make the most of the hard work hed done dragging defenders about all match
I just think we need to be realistic ……. We are just about a top six side and all of a sudden we are expecting us to be behaving like an established top 6 side …… we will not be able to sign big players/ players that are on Ollie’s level. We massively fucked it up on the last day of the season hence we are just about managing to keep our big players and we’re having to shop in non premium areas as a result.
