In the 24th matchday of the 2010/11 season, league leader Borussia Dortmund had to play in the Allianz Arena in Munich against Bayern. Bayern had to win that game to get back into the championship race.

The Dortmund team, featuring Langerak (22 years old), Subotic (22), Hummels (22), Schmelzer (22), Piszczek (25), Bender (21), Sahin (22), Großkreutz (22), Götze (18), Lewandowski (22) and Barrios (26) – while one of the most important players, Kagawa (21) missed that game and the whole second half of the season – won 3-1 in Munich and made a major step in the title race.

After that 2010/11 season, Gündogan (20) and Perisic (22) joined the club, and the season after that, Reus (23) joined. All these guys built the core of the team that reached the Champions League final in 2012/13 and brought Dortmund back on the european football landscape.

Never again Dortmund had a team this young. Fun times!

  1. The players we managed to get for little to no money was really out of this world. That entire starting formation only cost us a *total* of 19.5m

  2. A beautiful curled shot from Sahin and a header by Hummels. I can still vividly remember where I was when I watched that game

Also, the newer fans will never understand how Sahin was probably the best Bundesliga player at the time and maybe top 5 in the world. He was magical to look at
